Quality system with great cameras, lots of DVR space, and nice mobile app to manage it
I'm very happy with this system. I recently remodeled my home, so running cat6 cables for PoE cameras made a lot of sense while the ceiling was open. I love having wired cameras that will never need batteries charged or replaced. The cameras are excellent, and I get months of history on 8 cameras. It does a good job of detecting motion and only recording events. Night infrared video is very clear. The cameras are high quality and have all the features you'd want, including talk-through, siren, and even an LED light that can be turned on/off on schedule or through the app. The console app on the DVR itself is kind of basic, but sufficient to do any setup tasks and monitor the cameras. After setup, I just turn of the video monitor and forget about it. The mobile app is excellent, and so that is what I use most to configure things or view footage. I initially had alerts coming in for any event, but after a while got tired of alerts of squirrels and cats or a wasp buzzing around the lens, so I turned alerts off. It has home/away mode that you can set up, but I don't use that feature. I think this system is great, and value for the price. My only regret is that I didn't wire up more channels during construction, since 8 of the channels are unused on the DVR.

Great cameras and DVR
Setup wasn't too difficult and now we have eyes in the front and back of our home 24/7! We love it. Super easy to use. No monthly data storage fees necessary. You can even add up to 4 more cameras if you want. Note: the DVR doesn't have Bluetooth so you will have to hook it up to a TV or computer near your router or you will have to run a cable to it. The app gives you access to the cameras when you are away. Kit also comes with stickers to let people know you have surveillance going. Very pleased with this purchase!

I have had several of these units
They do work well... some of the older models were very sensitive to electricity that had surges. The older models had large hard drives. I obtained Uninterurped Power supply units. they pure power to the security system for over an hour. My current DVR has a SOLID STATE Hard drive and four very good cameras.

Works well
Bought it for an offline-capable security camera system. Ended up adding the other 4 cameras. Works well. Nice customization options in software. Reasonable app when online, but nothing to write home about. Everything works as it should. NO AUDIO. This was clear when I bought it, but it's good to know.

Very Hard to connect to internet for alerts
I bought this unit because I had a Swann NVR7300 and wanted to replace it with an upgraded system. Well, this unit has turned out to be almost impossible to get to connect to the e mail server, so I receive alerts from the cameras. I can Log in remotely by I phone and by computer to view but without the feature of alerts it is not worth the money. Without alerts I certainly do not want to sit by the monitor 24 hours a day to see if something is happening. I Have viewed all material about getting connected and have contacted customer support with a ticket complaint. As far as their computer assisted response it is close to worthless, perhaps even worst completely worthless. If I receive and assistance from Swann to get alerts or any other person can help me. I will revise my review. I was contacted by the seller 09-03-23 about things to try. Update 09-10-23. I was able to get the e mail sending alerts after many hours of internet searching to find an address that would work. I used the port given, SMTP 00587 and SMTP address as SMTP-mail.outlook.com I failed to mention that the mouse did not work although a small item which is easily replaced. I have now received 2 messages that cameras 6 has lost video, they are just sitting on the floor at this time, no other cameras lost video and no power outages in the house. I will contact customer support tomorrow to go over the options. Update 11-10-23 It appears Swann is in the market of hanging people in the delay mode. I am still having problems now with 2-way communications, it does not matter how many times you contact customer support they just keep asking the same questions in a different fashion and do not even read what you have sent them. I hope I get to revise this review in a more positive way but until I get some real support that will not happen. Update 07-04-24 Well, I have been put in touch with a contact at Swann and I still can't get the two-way communication to work satisfactory. Many problems with no solutions. I keep getting e mails from Swann as they have not heard from me, and they will cancel the inquiry if I do not reply within a certain time. As someone mentioned they just keep passing you around without any solutions. It is almost 1 year later, and I do not have a solution, perhaps they just hope I will go away after a year when their supposes warranty is up. Further update 10-20-24 I was in Australia September 1st to 23rd and the cameras once again didn't send e mail. I called Swann and they told me nothing could be done remotely, and I would have to Waite until I returned to the USA (are not the 8580 meant to be remotely controlled). I returned and still cannot get e mail alerts. Now the system appears to be shut down and I do not get any e mails to even my drop box but still get push notifications, called Swann (e mail as that is all they have) and spoke to a Ken which he said he was here to help however when I asked too many questions he has not been heard from for 3 days. PS Swann does have a phone number you can call but who knows how long you will have to Waite.

It just works beautifully!
Very impressed. Beautiful, sharp HD picture. You get what I assume is a nifty little Linux server with included mouse. Note it uses an on-screen keyboard. Don't freak out there is no keyboard because I did at first. LOL. The system is fast and responsive (I am using the hard-wired BNC version because I hate lag over wifi). The Android app is stable and has never crashed. I can say the same about the server. Highly recommended.

Overall good, but not up to modern expectations
As far as a security system goes this is a very good system. The camera quality is very good, obviously if you want the best image possible you will need to invest in the 4K version, however for personal use this is more than adequate. Setup is something that I recommend you have planned out beforehand, with this being a wired system it can be a little difficult to ensure you have a clean route from the camera to the dvr box. Now for the bad, the reason I give this 3 stars. The user interface for connecting to the camera system through the app is nearly impossible to get to work. I have tried everything the Swann website recommends and it still does not work. For some reason Swann has about 15 different apps, one for each of their different products it seems like, and if you're like me and the one that is listed with the product you purchased doesn't work you try them all only to see, some try to connect, or even pick up the dvr on the network but fail to complete the connection. There are no instructions for a work around for this part, or the proper setup of the router or how to properly connect the app. You also cannot manually connect the dvr to your Dropbox on the device you have to do it through the app, which means, If you have issues such as mine you cannot back up the recordings on your device. This would all be understandable as issues with my own connection, but after researching i see this is a common problem with the Swann apps, they have low ratings and are overall not updated regularly or even made sure to work properly. This device is able to send emails to me, showing it is connected to the internet, but I am unable to connect beyond that. If remote monitoring is an important factor for your home security I recommend trying a different brand or product.
