Fun and informational
This is a great introductory book for young children about Christopher Columbus. It's written in rhyme, which makes it instantly appealing, and the text is informational and fun. The artwork is watercolor and realistic, which is a nice shift from most kid's books that are full of cartoons. Very Montessori-friendly, if you're so inclined. Bought for our 4 and 2 year old to introduce the man behind Columbus Day.

Honoring columbus Day in the Classroom
Honoring Columbus Day in the ClassroomFor 20 years I used this book with my daily Music classes to honor Columbus Day. My students added various percussion instruments to enhance certain words in the poem. We added another special poem about Columbus, did cut-outs and made a light show to perform in a primary Col. Day school assembly for all our primary students. I am purchasing two copies of this book for my two sets of grandchildren, each set a 4 and 5 year old boy and girl. The illustrations are wonderful. It is a great childrens' book.

Great
Oh my! This is one of my favorite read alouds. It tells the story in rhyme. It touches on many important point such as: Columbus getting lost and the crowded conditions using humor. The "cartoony" pictures are engaging. I have used this in grades 2 through 5 with of course different reactions in each grade.
