Lost Boston Hardcover – May 1, 2014

Was very interesting , had a lot of places I knew when I grew up. Storyline about the places was Great ! I just wish there were more places listed that are gone now.

This book shows pictures of, and describes, 18th and 19th-century Boston buildings that were demolished, and were thus never seen to be appreciated by modern Bay Staters. Many interesting and sad stories told here.

You can never go wrong when purchasing a book on Boston, by Anthony Sammarco. I purchased this as a gift for someone, they loved it and it was passed around the room at the party.

Beutiful old photos of buildings that no longer exist. Its heartbreaking to read about the ones that were torn down to make room for others. A must read for anyone interested in the history of this great city.

I find it incomprehensible that Mr. Sammarco would publish a book with an egregious error in the chapter on Holy Cross Cathedral. I wonder what other errors of fact I will come across. The author states at the end of the narrative that the Keeley church was never built due to its massive weight. Well anyone can view the Keeley church today, the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Cross and the 6th largest Gothic cathedral in the world, in all its glory in the South End of Boston over 100 years later. The only part of the church left unbuilt were the two spires, deemed overly weighty for the filled-in soil.

I liked the book as it brought back memories of when I was growing up in that area. The photos and captions are all quite interesting.

Nice picture book about Boston's old, torn-down buildings. Learned a lot.

Good reading for older Bostonians, what originally made the city great.

Now have the full set of these classic books. Fantastic value.
