I've been trying to find a code reader that works on a Mini. BMW, which purchased the Mini badge after British Leyland went belly up, also uses what are known as " proprietary codes" on the OBD II system. My previous purchases, one at Harbor Freight (cost me $40. to return when it couldn't read the code, although it was advertised as reading Mini codes...) and another from a website that sells Mini parts, wouldn't.This unit was easy to use, told me the codes, and let me research on the Web to find out that my car wants the expensive gas.

This probably already saved me several hundred dollars just reading and clearing a code for something minor. It’s very thorough and can access every system and sensor on the car giving detailed information. At first I had some trouble linking up and reading faults but it was just user error and not knowing how to use it properly. Definitely worth the $85. Can’t imagine what it would have cost to take it in. Also this gives you the actual explanation of the trouble code not just a number to have to google. Great buy, highly recommend !!

Instructions are a bit hard to follow and understand but overall the unit works as it should. Was able to read and clear codes. Had to ask my mechanic to help me navigate it at first but then I got the hang of it.

It can clear codes but it won't actually acknowledge that there's codes to be cleared. Check engine light on, and the reader says there's nothing to read. I only know it can clear the codes because the function is there, you can tell it to do it, and the light will turn off (only to turn back on when the issue occurs).There's a big difference between saying "this should work because of blah protocol" and "this works because of blah protocol AND because we tested it". Not sure I believe this thing was actually tested - not on the vehicles it supports anyway...

When shopping it can be hard to tell if an OBD reader will work on a particular car, and even harder to know what functions it supports. This does work with a Gen 2 mini and will reset the battery registration. I haven't looked at any of the other resets functions (TPMS, Oil) but suspect those will work also. The live data stream function works also. This tool seems to work with many BMW's, you have to scroll through 3-4 pages of them to get to a single Mini setup. There is also a learning curve to find all of the functions, but it's not overly hard.

This is my second Creator product. Both sort of work for many things, but they are very painful to use. And unlike my older one, when I tried to use this one, it won't do the thing it said it would do and that I needed, and then when I went to try and update it online to see if there was a firmware patch, and that process was even more frustrating than using the scanner itself (that is saying a lot), and the whole update process is just completely broken (as noted by another reviewer here).Returning this one and buying a more expensive product from a more mature company (Foxwell), which will hopefully work like this one should have.That being said, it will eventually do many things, so if you are absolutely strapped for money, and can deal with the frustration, this will work most of the time (steering angle sensor recalibration on a Mini R53 is what I needed that this would not do).
