Engaging Roman Cyberpunk War Game. Need More?
What a fantastic game.Pros:-Beautiful miniatures that suck you into the universe of the game-Four different avenues of winning means every game will play differently between players and you can always find the strategy that suits you best-Combat is simplistic without being boring-Can be a fairly short game once everyone knows what they are doing (60ish mins)-An extremely simple game to learn. The theme makes the rules just make sense-A plethora of expansions to personalize the game to your specific wants (Get the Terrain Expansion)Cons:-I think I might house-rule a way to win by doing a certain amount of quests so that they feel more important-And I wish I could paint...

fun game, but takes some time to play
once we got to learn the order of operations on how to play, it was fun. only played with 2 people but was enough to keep our attention very well. look forward to playing it with more people.

Amazing miniatures!!
Love the miniatures. Game play looks amazing. The only problem I have is that the box is not large enough to hold everything very well.

Lords of Hellas is unlike any game you've played, but it might be like all of them as well. The reasons I decided to write this review were first, so that a buyer can consider my input and second, so that a designer might consider the suggestions of a major fan. This game is great! When i first played it, I said it was "good". Over time, and with several playthroughs, it has become great. But, unlike some of the heroes of ancient Greece, Lords of Hellas has not attained a legendary or godlike quality unto itself. That does not mean it isn't worth your time and money. In Lords of Hellas, you will take on the role of one of four ancient heroes (Heracles, Perseus, Achilles, and Helen) questing, battling ancient mythological beasts, and commanding your armies as they are bolstered by your priests who pray to massive monuments of the gods. The game is full of theme and its techno mashup works well. You really feel like Heracles, hunting the hydra and working in the Agean stables. I was thrilled to fly Perseus to a region where Medusa had frozen my armies, kill her with my weapons (which works like a set collection of cards) and obtain her blood as an artifact that I could use against my opponents. As I slayed my monsters, my opponents were building temples and monuments and praying to those monuments and having battles with their hoplites. There is a lot going on but the game doesn't seem to recognize it.There are a few clunky mechanics in the game that just seem unnecessary. Fortifying! When can I fortify? Why should I fortify? Exactly. Spending one of your precious leadership points to fortify a hoplite in a city is... well it's silly to be honest. My gaming group has removed it because it doesn't affect the game very much at all and we are never sure which method of recruitment permits a fortify action. Monuments are amazing and they look incredible when put together... the problem is that they are hardly ever fully built. When you build a monument, it frees up everyone's special actions so they can take them again. If you pray to a bigger monument, you get bigger bonuses-which is an amazing mechanic. Questing, it seems, is really only appreciated by me because I enjoy that tiny RPG element of sending my hero on a quest. But I understand my friends' feelings towards quests because most of the time, quests take your hero out of the game for two turns to receive a mediocre reward. There should be a win condition where quests matter (perhaps tie it into the monster slayer win condition since it seems the easiest.) The game needs to trim the unecessary and embrace what it excells at. It needs to meld its fantastic mechanisms together, so that the player feels they are not just hopefully wandering toward a win condition. And it needs a better solo mode. This one is kind of half-baked, even though I find it enjoyable. The game is great. It's not fantastic and it needs some tweaking, but I can see myself playing this game for years to come and that's because it gives me a reason to come back every time I play. Maybe I should stop Heracles from controlling the Hermes monument. That way he can't fly around the map, killing monsters. Maybe I should recruit soldiers more often and guard my temples from being taken. Maybe I should expand my armies to take Zeus' whip and damage my opponents from afar. There are so many great elements within this game that it has become one of my favorites, but it may not be one of yours.Pros:Component quality/production valueTheme (techno and all)Monster huntingVariable player powersArtifacts and blessingsPlay time (90-120 min.)Cons:A lot of rules (some unnecessary)You HAVE to fight to winQuests with lame rewardsNot. enough. Monument!!If you like Scythe, Kemet, Blood Rage, and Inis- get it!If you like straight-up Eurogames... uh. No.4.3/5.

Great area control game with some spices
It’s a great game. The army figures aren’t of high quality, but the monsters, heroes and monuments are! There is some additional stuff on Etsy that is worth buying. However, this game is for 4 players only and the 5-player expansion is not available in Germany, only US and Canada (I ignore the 700 pound delivery from UK). I’m based in Germany.
