I enjoyed this book so much and have knitted a few of the patterns that I needed to purchase a second copy. The book is well written and the modernized versions of the late Victorian/Edward and/World War I patterns are absolutely wonderful. They are sized in a wide range of sizes including four and five x and many of the patterns are sized for the whole family or have variations that will fit the whole family all the way from newborn babies two adults who are full figured. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to leave vintage knit wear patterns!

Not what I'd hoped for
Disappointing. I usually have difficulty reading patterns ahead of time, preferring to have needles and yarn in my hands and knit step by step, but some preliminary, even cursory reading is necessary, of course. I found these patterns especially difficult, with stitches unexplained, not even in the back of the book where the stitches are (supposedly) described, and some obvious errors. Also some of the photos are inadequate to give an idea of what the products look like. I would not knit any of these items as given. That said, the book is very attractive and for the most part very interesting in terms of the history of a small English village during WW1 and of knitting itself. It will go on my shelf to be perused from time to time, and I might attempt to approximate one or two of the patterns, but that's all. Oh, yes, and it's much too expensive for what it is.

Great information as well as lots of patterns
I bought this book because I am interested in textile history, but I did not anticipate that there would be so many patterns I would want to use! It's a very generous offering indeed.

War time from a different angle
I was lucky to see the DVD of the family's story, so the book is even more appreciated. It combines the history with the art of knitting and for the items to be modeled on real people shows them off in the best possible way.

A Book With Lots of Vintage Patterns
A very informative book with a lot of vintage designs. The paper is not of the quality I would have liked, but the number of patterns included makes it worth the price.

Viele Anleitungen...
