2008 album from the German Black Metal outfit. Formed in 1994, Dark Fortress have established themselves in the top ranks of the Black Metal genre with intense live shows and fascinating, pitch black full-length masterpieces that meet the standard created mostly in northern Europe's prolific scenes with ease. Things were just picking up speed with the recording of this album when the band had to announce the departure of vocalist Azathoth due to personal reasons in May 2007. Three months later the band decided to go with an old acquaintance of theirs Morean, a freelance composer and guitarist of the progressive Death/Thrashers Noneuclid. The multi-talented Morean was also responsible for the lyrical concept of Eidolon. The concept describes a magic mirror ritual as while a person is in a trance, the surface of the mirror is used as a gate to enter a new dimension. Three songs each form the album's three chapters. gigantisch düster
vielleicht eine der düstersten und schwärzesten Alben, die ich habe. Eine unglaublich gruselige Atmosphäre wird durch die relativ tiefe Instrumentierung erzeugt, unheimliche Melodien und wechselnde Tempi sorgen für absolute Gänsehaut. Bei dem Album, das man sich übrigens komplett durchhören sollte, hat man den Eindruck, eine Tür durch eine Pforte in eine andere Welt zu betreten, wobei Dich der Geistergesang dämonisch begleitet. Die Stimme kommt in krasse Tiefen, erinnert streckenweise ein wenig an Sparky von Demented are go!, hat aber einen viel viel grusligeren Effekt dank der begleitenden Totenmusik! Wahnsinn, diese Band! Ich kann nur Jedem empfehlen, diese Reise anzutreten! Man wandert durch geisterhaften Nebel! Brutal gut!!!

comme chaque album du groupe paru chez Century Media, Eidolon est une totale réussite. Rien n'est moyen, acceptable. A l'image des ambitions du label, rien n'est laissé au hasard. Pas de mauvaise surprise, un grand moment. Un album qui ne vieilli pas

後半がツボ
ドイツ出身のメロディック・ブラックメタルバンドの五作目。全9曲約52分。 アルバム全体を包み込むダークでメランコリックな雰囲気はまさにブラックメタル特有のものですが、今作は音質も良く、なによりメロディが豊富です。特に六曲目の「Edge Of Night」はメロデスと言ってしまってもよいほどで、この曲はブラックメタル初心者にオススメできるはず。しかしそれ以外の曲は本格的なブラックメタルで、暗く薄ら寒いトレモロリフにブラスト、そしてシンフォニックなキーボードという普遍的なスタイルを踏襲しており、徹底的に暗黒世界を表現しています。ちなみに個人的には六曲目以降、トレモロリフによるダークな雰囲気やラストの宗教的な雰囲気が気に入っています。 さて最初にメロディが豊富と書きましたが、それらは決して万人受けするようなものではありません。メロデス好きでもこれは合わない可能性があります。個人的にはImperium Dekadenz、Siebenburgenなどが好みの、本当にメロディック・ブラックメタルが好きな方だけにオススメしたい作品です。

Love this album, I think this band is pushed off to the side a little bit........not in my eyes tho! very talented, very serious and would be exciting to see live!

Not quite what I expected
Unfortunately bland songwriting mars this well-produced effort. Most of the songs flow one into the next without any real standouts. The listener keeps waiting for a melody or structure to grab and pull them into the experience emotionally, but it rarely comes. This is a bit frustrating as the promise of amazing things is evident, but not delivered on this recording. Best track would have to be Baphomet. It has attention-grabbing riff work and melodic structure, particularly in the later half. Kudos to Morean for bringing a more thoughtful lyricism to the entire proceedings, however.
