This is a terrible travesty
I bought this to listen rather than watch after watching the DVDs of the 1985 TV series The Jewel in the Crown. This version bears no comparison whatsoever - the casting, in my opinion, is all wrong and the voice of the actor portraying Daphne Manners particularly infuriating. I gained the impression that the adaptation was a clumsy attempt to render this part of British colonial history more easily understood for today's younger generation. The 1985 TV adaptation and casting was well-nigh perfect and inevitable that I should be disappointed in other more recent adaptations. I do not wish to be further annoyed by listening to more than the first half hour of this travesty and I will try to obtain refund to spend on audio readings of the original Paul Scott books.

Excellent
An excellent dramatisation of these fascinating books. I returned to them after thirty years and wasn’t disappointed.
