Gruesome and totally worth the money!
The story of the film might sound a bit average horror movie. But since it's foreign horror it's usually a little bit better than those typical Hollywood crap horror movies. Manhunt is a mix of Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and High Tension.Story is about a group of kids who stop at caféteria and pickup a hitchhiker, but soon they realize why she seems so freightened. Group is ambushed and tied and seperated, while some of them are killed in the ambush. They awake for a hunting horn, hunting season has begun..If you are looking for a cold-blooded horror here it is. Very nasty and gory at places.

Unoriginal, but really well made
It's 1974 and four friends are driving to a remote part of the woods, they've planned a weekend of hiking and relaxing. They stop to get gas and food at a cafe/gas station, where they get into an altercation with a few of the locals. There's a woman at the cafe who seems shaken and alone, so they end up giving her a lift. A little while later the woman becomes ill so they pull over to let her out, they are then ambushed by a group of three rednecks and knocked unconscious. They wake up in the middle of the woods, it seems they have become the prey for these hillbilly hunters. Not very original, you instantly think of movies like Deliverance, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn and Southern Comfort. Manhunt is made in a way that it's often quite unsettling and hard to watch, the movie I was most reminded of was the first 45 minutes or so of the original Last House On The Left. There's no backstory for the killers at all, we have no idea who they are or why they're doing it. Some people like to know exactly who these people are, I don't really think it's important and it keeps them mysterious. The acting is good without being spectacular, there's no nudity but there's a couple of great gore scenes. There's a moment with a shotgun and an ankle that made me wince. It's Norwegian with English subtitles, I know that subtitles put some people off for some reason, but after the first twenty minutes there's not that much dialogue anyway. The direction by Patrik Syversen was really good considering it was his first feature film, the film isn't quite eighty minutes so the pace very rarely drops and there's plenty of tension. The cinematography was absolutely sublime and probably the best aspect of the movie. It looks fantastic and the colour palette is great, it's shot in dull browns and yellows that give it a great look and it feels like the '70s. The music also gets credit, there's some nice songs that put us in the era it was set in and the David Hess song Wait For The Rain appears. I wasn't all that keen on one of the characters becoming Rambo half way through, and the ending left it a little too open ended and didn't seem that well thought out.The DVD has no extras at all which was very disappointing, it would have been nice to have a commentary or a making of. I really enjoyed Manhunt, and if a little more effort had gone into giving us some extras I probably would have given it 4 stars. If you like these type of movies with people getting hunted in the woods, then I can't see why you wouldn't enjoy this one.

Eden Lake for the Norwegians, but with even less story
I agree with other reviewers that the cinematography is excellent as is the music. If you like that in a dark movie then watch Zodiac because that has a great storyline too; Manhunt is just far too predictable and lacks any character development. Basically it's just torture porn but less graphic than Hostel or the Saw movies.'Eden Lake' is very similar to this in many ways, only with a slightly more intelligent ending. It's also in English which makes no difference to me but apparently subtitles in films like Manhunt still bother a lot of people. Oh, and Eden Lake stars Michael Fassbender (although he has no characterisation.Manhunt isn't strictly a BAD film, just spetacularly uninspired. You have been warned.

70s-style Slasher homage
Really enjoyed this flick. It evoked a similar vibe of 70s horror for me that Ti West's excellent House of the Devil evoked for 80s horror. In fact, this didn't feel like a homage to 70s slasher genre as much as an actual film *made* in the 70s.Very good stuff indeed and ridiculously good value at £2.95.

Sharp stick, sit tight and shushhhhh!
For a low budget horror involving such a small cast and set in a murky dank forest and subtitled it is testament to its quality that I watched it until the closing credits. A slow burner but when the horror begins the first act is shocking and you will spit out a few expletives, especially if you are a sibling. Why three stars? well, after the terror initiation it becomes appparent that the "threat" is not something that would have you spasm in dry mouth horror, infact, once your heart rate had dropped and you didn't wander off alone and had a bit of fight in you, you would probably fancy your chances (in a group, not alone, if I was alone I would probably climb a tree and cry). You cannot sneak up on a person in a dry forest instead set an obvious trail, get a sharp stick, sit tight and shushhh.
