Love it so far
I have had this for only a short time but my old Cuisinart was dreadful. Have used it for toasting bread and cinnamon raisin rolls and it did well. I have also cooked a frozen quiche and heated appetizers in it. After having a toaster oven that was performing so poorly, I will have to get used to one that performs well. I love the timer and the very fast pre-heating. It appears to be well made with quality materials. I do wish it came with a broiler rack, but the pan it comes with is a sturdy enameled piece. I have a very small kitchen and this is perfectly sized, yet will allow me to cook what I need. It appears to be worth the price.** updateStill loving this toaster oven. Here is my take on a few things:Several of the older reviews mention that the bell/buzzer was too loud or somehow a disturbance. Perhaps Breville changed this feature because it sounds no different to me than any number of things that ding or buzz in my kitchen. The materials seem to be sturdy and high quality. Not sure why some have thought them cheap.A clock? If you have no clock on your microwave or regular oven, it might be useful, but not an issue for most.Markings for rack level on the inside rather than just the door? There are only 3 possible rack placements. Within a few uses, I was able to remember which level was toast, bake or broil.Too big??? That's mystifying. If does hold 4 slices of bread, 6 cup muffin tin etc. Would there be a market for something even smaller?Too hot? It's all sturdy metal. Metal conducts heat. If you have it set to 400 degrees it will indeed be hot. You can use the top surface as a plate warmer, but, as with any toaster oven or portable cooking appliance, you need to be careful about touching things to the exterior when it's in use. Use common sense. This really is both a great toaster and great mini oven, not something I have found with any other toaster oven I've owned. Worth the price!

Excellent Toaster Oven
Unbelievable functions. Probably the best toaster oven Iâve ever purchased. Workhorse for a compact size. Cooks uniformly. Love!

Excellent customer service. Nice oven
The oven is a nice size and intuitive to use. Unfortunately the first oneâs digital functions did not function correctly and heating element did not respond correctly.I called Breville customer service and was impressed. The representative was able to set up a kind of zoom so he could see exactly what the oven was doing. He concluded it should be replaced, sent me instructions to UPS it back.My intent was to replace my toaster which died. I decided to upgrade to a toaster oven. I really like the oven but agree with other reviewers of many brands that toasting bread is not the strong suit of these ovens. For many of us there will be a learning curve. I suggest searching for âhow to toast bread in toaster ovensâ. Surprisingly, what works for me is toasting on the broil function, flipping halfway through. You need to watch it. This gives medium darkness and not an over dried toast with very hard crust. I am toasting sourdough bread.

Reviewing the reviewersâŠ
I just received my toaster oven yesterday. The packaging was sturdy and the oven unpacked in perfect condition. I ran it through the âstart-up cycleâ, let it cool down, and then baked a chicken pot pie. It was perfectly golden and flaky. Also, the controls on the front of the oven are simple and easy to understand. How many appliances or electronics do we own that are so complex we never use half of the features? Itâs also lightweight, which makes it easy to move.We have a minuscule kitchen, so the size is probably about as large as I would want. I think I can bake, broil, or roast about anything for everyday meals, since itâs just my husband and I. Obviously, Iâd be using the regular oven for a Thanksgiving turkey! I tried my 9âx9â Longaberger baking dish in the oven, and it fits. So, itâs great thus far⊠Iâm trying a pizza tonight. As I spent hours reading reviews on this oven over the past several weeks, I had these observations regarding complaints from negative reviewers, some of which seem to be from âglass half emptyâ folks:1. âIt gets hot on the outsideâ⊠yes, and so does your slow cooker, your coffee pot, or a pan on the stove. The instructions tell you that you need to leave room around the oven.2. âThe crumb tray doesnât slide all the way into the ovenâ. I think most of these reviewers have it upside down. When I was putting in the crumb tray, it extended out the front of the oven and I thought these reviews were right. Then I turned it over and it fit perfectly.3. âIt clicksâ. Yes, it does click when the heating rods turn on and off, but not loudly. Thatâs how it works to keep the temperature correct.4. âIt beeps loudlyâ. It beeps three times when the oven comes to temp, to let you know itâs ready for the food. My dryer buzzes when the cycle is done, and the tv has a chime when you turn it on or off. Thatâs life.5. âThe labels on the door showing where to place the rack for the various functions clutter the look of the ovenâ. Really? Theyâre small and on the side of the door by the controls anyway. I am glad I donât have to continually refer to the manual.6. âThere is no interior lightâ. I think thatâs probably because the oven is small. You can just open the door and check your food if necessary.7. âIt has an odd plug with a finger hole that sticks out too farâ. I think Breville modified the plug sometime over the years, because my oven has a flat round plug.8. The rack doesnât auto-slide out when you open the door. I purchased a silicone push/pull tool very inexpensively on Amazon. It works perfectly with this oven. Or just use an oven mitt.I also purchased the cutting board for the top of the oven, the pizza pan, and the broiling pan. Just make sure you get the ones for the 450XL.This Breville oven seems just right for us. I will do an update if anything changes.
