Vostok company story starts back in 1942, when one of the Moscow watch-making plants has been evacuated from Moscow to a little town Chistopol located on the Kama River. Defense equipment was the only company output during war years, but as soon as the war was over Vostok started to make mechanical wrist watches - the main production item ever since. In 1965 Vostok company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union. This year marks the creation of the world-famous "Komandirskie" ("Commander") watch. Military watch grew very popular even with people who were unaware which end of the gun bullet comes off, mainly due to high precision, excessive reliability and durability. The appearance of the watch also contributes to its appeal - functional and clear-cut design invoked the feeling of belonging to the tough world of combat professional. The experience which Vostok gained through development of the army watch was the foundation of our next special watch - "Amphibian". This impressive timepiece in stainless-steel case endured the depth of 2000 meters - kind of a wrist submarine. Success of the professional watches determined the company's present philosophy - to create mechanical watches maintaining precise timekeeping at any temperature, in any environment, surviving heavy pressure and blows. The viability of the chosen strategy is now time-proven. A vast multitude of people both in Russia and abroad boasting "Vostok" watches and various international prizes awarded for high quality and commercial success testify to this. In 1996 Vostok started a partnership with US "Capital Trading" company aiming to create a new generation timepiece. The watch assembled to US sales by Sputnik TM technology.

well made and unique
Great watch for $50, has a very vintage feel, things you should know- watch is hand wind not automatic so every day you need to wind it until you feel it get tight then stop, do not overwind! case is plated metal like many vintage watches, acrylic crystal like many vintage watches, low beat movement 19,800 bph aka 5 ticks per second like many vintage watches. The crown is strange, has a very loose feel but is actually a clutch mechanism to reduce stress on stem when winding or if you were to drop it. Once you pull the crown taught it feels more normal. Build quality is great 👍🏼 dial is a beautiful blue that starts lighter in tone at the top and gets gradually darker like the ocean, has Russian submarine on dial along with the Vostok logo. Bezel rotates both ways and no clicks. (Not a dive watch) stock strap is kind of stiff, I put a gray NATO strap on it. Lug width is 18mm but I crammed a 19mm on it. 17 jewel mechanical hand wind movement.Great watch! Seller sent really good Russian chocolate 🍫 with watch!

Love this watch!
Great watch for a great price.Great looking, reliable, packed with history, unlike any other in my collection (except the Vostok Amphibia).I realy enjoy wearing it.my only minor downside is the band width which is 18mm, i think that20 mm was more appropriate for a 40 mm watch.

Cool looking thing
The watch is pretty cool looking. But the plastic "crystal" and the pain in the a$$ crown/setting time/winding are the reasons why I can't give it 5 stars. Forget setting the date. You'll throw it across the room. I got no Russian chocolate with my watch.

Nice watch with a good history
This is a really great watch. As other reviews indicate when you first wind it you think it’s going to fall apart but it does not. I really like colors, the blue really pops. The watch itself is very small but super easy to ready and it’s a nice conversation piece. The included leather band is the only thing I would change, but it does the job. Highly recommended watch.

Great daily wear casual mechanical watch at a great price
The Komandirskie is the best quality mechanical watch you can buy for approx. $40. They are rugged, durable, and dependable, built to last a decade without any service or maintenance. You never have to change a battery, but you do need to wind it up once a day. They are great daily wear watches. I would consider them casual, since the graphics on most of the dial options range from casual quirky, to outright childish and cartoonish.

Stopped Working After 6 months
It is a good watch for the price, but it stopped working after roughly 6 months. I kept it in my drawer for the remainder of the year after I bought it thinking maybe it's a fluke, but nope, it is broken. I wind it and the second hand does not want to spin.

Good solid Russian watch
This brand was popular for its high quality back in 80's and 90's as I remember when I lived in Soviet Union. Here we are 2021 and it still is awesome.Bought this watch as a gift for someone and have been testing it for over a week or so.Winding it up and checking on its accuracy. So far, so good. If I stay consistent like instructions say, and wind the watch up every 24 hours, then it keeps working and is accurate. The metal border with numbers does spin unlike many cheap brands these days. The back of the watch looks awesomely Russian too.I like this watch so much, that now I'm thinking to buy it for myself too.

Keeps me alive
Great watch for working outside. I don’t carry one of those fancy computer phones like all the young hipster kids do these days, so I need a watch to keep time and get back home safely before sunrise. This does the trick as long as I remember to wind it. Keeps good time so far. I have yet to be caught out in the perils of the rising sun and it’s evil ultraviolet radiation. Best of all, I can now tell time in Russian!
