Truly Quiet enough for Video work as you can barely hear it at all
Most continuous mono lights in this power range appear to all have fans. I researched specs and compared units and this one was the only one that held out the promise of being quiet enough for Video work.If you look at YouTube reviews competing products get a passing grade or almost passing grade according to the reviewers "if you use a drop down directional mic above the subject." For my purposes that is not acceptable. I will have the subject with a uni-directional lapel mic so fan noise has to not reach the subject. I bought and quickly returned one of these other models and even putting it 10 feet behind a directional mike pointing in the same direction as the light the mic picked up the fan noise . Not surprising as you can hear the fan yourself even if you are standing 20 feet away. I only put the light 10 feet behind the uni-directional mic thinking the mic would reject the noise behind it but it didn't. The fan is was too loud.In comparison: When I got the Jinbei EF-150D I could place a directional mike right next to the light and it was tough to tell if the mic picked up any sound at all. If you are not putting your ear close to the light you don't even know it's on. When you have it at full power the fan does get louder but not much.very loud at all.Must cycle the Battery to get it to hold it's full charge. The battery initially only runs for a short time so I did about 4 cycles of fully charging it, letting it run at full power till dead and each time it would run longer. So far the best I've gotten out of a battery is 43 minutes.(I'm running more tests and will update if I get more time out of a battery at full power)There is no spec anywhere saying how long the battery should run but one reviewer on YouTube said about two hours but didn't say at what powerI bought a second unit and the battery behaved the same way.For me, where I don't want any noise that can be picked up in a quiet room when doing Video recording, this product at the moment appears to be the only one out there that is quiet enough for me. As I said, I had a competing "quiet" model and you could hear it in a good sized room even at it's lowest power. It's fan got much louder as you went up in power.I also found the price vs power to be a good price considering it has battery only operation.I'm very happy with my two units. For those wondering how this 150 Watt continuous light stacks up against a Mono light (flash) or Speed lights I found the following results from my testing.--- For other AC powered continuous lighting that is not a LED mono light type, the Jinbei gives me four stops more--- My speed lights at max power give me three stops more than the Jinbei--- My 600 Ws mono light gives me two stops more than my speed lights making it five stops more than the JinbeiThis is all as it should be for the different technologies by my figuring. I have two of these and I like them very much! The price has gone up a little
I would’ve given it five stars but in the past year the price has gone up a bit. Very happy with it I’ve used Them for well over a year. I have two of them. I would really like to order two more batteries?
