Nostalgia
...having lived there many years ago, these pictures bring back fond memories. Today, visiting Alexandria, you would not recognize most of the buildings and streets. This book, Vintage Alexandria, is not only for those who have known the town but also for others who have read about it and can get a feel of how things were.....

The Old Alexandria that no longer exists today.
I've bought this book three times: once for myself; twice for my cousin and old friend. For those who have lived in Alexandria the reaction has always been one of delight. The numerous photos remind us of our youth in that cosmopolitan city by the sea.For newcomers the book might give them an idea how this port attracted people from all over the Mediterranean and created a certain kind of society that has long since vanished.

Fondest memories of bygone time
This book touched a cord in my heart... Alexandria is my most beloved city... The pictures in this book are priceless... they brought back fondest memories of a city so much loved and long gone leaving magnificent memories of a beautiful and carefree childhood and early youth... Oh Alexandria, how I love you and how I miss my city ... This is a coffee table book which I will cherish for the rest of my life. I highly recommend it to all Alexandria lovers who lived or visited this magnificent and mystical city ... I know this city touched our hearts and will always be there. You only need to listen to George Moustaki and Kotsiras songs "Alexandria" to know how dear this city is, and this book revived those long gone fond memories... I love you Alexandria

very good book
VERY GOOD WORK . SHOWS A SPECIAL BOND OF THE WRITER WITH THE TOWN. NEVERTHELSS I WOULD PREFER TO GIVE MORE PHOTOS AND MENTION THE GREEK COMMUNITY SCHOOLS WHICH WERE MORE THAN THE REST EUROPEAN SCHOOLS . THE GREEK COMMUNITY WAS 100.000 MEMBERS VERY ACTIVE AND PROSPEROUS.

Brilliant
Paid for a used book, and got it still wrapped like New. It's a very good book, and allows the reader to see the changes that happened to the same places over time through pictures. It is nice seeing the people too and the way they used to get dressed.

Disappointing
I was quite looking forward to getting the book but it turned out to be a disappointment. The book will neither satisfy the curiosity of someone who wants to learn about Alexandria, nor the nostalgia of someone who misses it.The pictures are a lot fewer than expected. I wouldn't recommend the book unless it is used and really inexpensive.

Great collection of pix!
Anyone who has been to modern Alex, or even Egypt, will be amazed by the transformation from old to new when they see this book. And it's not always a flattering comparison; old Alex has style - albeit largely Western style - which often seems missing in the new bustling city. This book is an interesting window onto a seemingly disappeared society.

My lovely City
Nice collection of photos, which show the nice era that Alexandria lived in the 1800 and 1900s. Thanks Michael Haag..
