Will stay in red light only
Just wanted to make a review because I love this light.I’ve had a p tec bite for about 15 years. I recently forgot to remove the batteries after my outing and they blew up. Ruining the light. So I ordered a new one. This unit is small and lightweight and I love that. It’s why I keep it around. If I need more light I have a massive remote pack unit. The thing I wasn’t expecting was the on button modes. A single press will turn on red light, another press, next brightness level red, another press, off. And then repeat in the red mode. You only get to white with a press and hold. This is fantastic. I love it. My old one was not this way and I always wished I had something that acted like this. It’s the perfect light in my opinion. As long as your looking for an easy late night camp light. Not illuminating the whole trail. Also the white light has two levels of brightness as well and whenever you leave either color on for more than about 3-5 seconds the next press will turn it off and the next press after that will be red again. So if your not down with the white light hippy mace to the eyes of your friends get this light!

200 Lumen model
Product picture is misleading because they have the 100 Lumens model but I received the 200 Lumens model. Plus: 200 Lumens can produce brighter output. Con: Brighter light output drains battery faster. This updated model has lower runtime than previous model. Function: first click: RED LOW. Two clicks: RED HIGH. Press and hold: WHITE LOW. Press and hold and click again: WHITE HIGH. The button will not be accidentally pressed in your bag, so this is a plus. I am very happy with the function configuration because I prefer to start with RED LOW , and if I want anything brighter I have to make a conscious choice. Overall, I am happy.

Puts light on the subject.
Several modes ... Red for the stealth and super bright to let the racoons know you're taking that night hike. Fits nicely in my backpack hip pocket.

Good quality, light weight and perfect for EDC or preserving night vision
A good option to consider if you would like a headlamp which can be used for EDC purposes or to preserve your night vision. The red beam of the Byte is not as focused as the red beam of the Princeton Tec Fred headlamp. I like the narrow red beam of the Fred a bit more but the white beam of the Byte is great with the 1 LED and reflector. Great value considering the good price and that it has been made in the USA with a 5-year warranty.

Light weight, compact!
I love the size of this lamp! I wanted a dimmer light that wouldn’t blind me when I turned it on. I don’t need nor want a searchlight on my forehead! This is perfect. There isn’t much discernible difference between red-low and red-high. It is light too because it only uses two AAA batteries. It’s comfortable, well built, solid. I recommend this model. Other models with 3-AAA batteries are bigger, heavier, even the newer ones. Put 3 lithium AAA batteries in it and it is super light. Excellent head lamp!

Great for the price
How the button works is genius. I wouldn't have a headlamp any other way.

Great little head lamp
Love how the light goes right to red vs white light, as a active service member right light at night is a must and the light does just that. For the price one can't go wrong plus I like that it's made in the USA even if it's with foreign and domestic parts.

Very disappointing. Get something else.
I have an earlier model (> 5 years old) of this headlamp, and was very pleased with its small profile and red/white light options, so I wanted to purchase a back-up. I took my new Princeton Tec Byte headlamp on a fall backcountry camping trip this month (Oct 2020). Before leaving, I installed brand-new lithium batteries to ensure good performance through cold nights. Unfortunately, after just a few hours of use, the on/off and mode selection switch stopped responding in any sort of predictable way. I could not reliably get the headlamp to turn on/off or cycle between white and red other than in a sporadic and random manner.I cannot image anything vaguely 'tactical' about this product, other than being the sitting duck as you fumble around in the dark trying to get this thing turned on or off. Really disappointed. I discarded the packaging so there's likely no hope of a refund.

Good dual filter headlamp for running
I use this headlamp for low light runs in the morning. The red light filter is nice, but more of a concentrated beam, could be a bit brighter. The white light works quite well to avoid ruts and skunks.
