Very versatile drill bit

Large drill bits are not often needed, but when they are it is handy to have the right size available. As the shank on this bit is reduced size it fits into most standard drills (corded and cordless). As always with drill bits of this size, it is worth using smaller pilot holes first, so this just enlarges the hole rather than drills the initial hole. On soft materials such as plastic the bit works fine, in wood it doesn't cut as cleanly as a wood bit does, but that is to be expected. I found the Amazon page a little confusing though as to what this drill bit is designed for. It is a High Speed Steel (HSS) bit which is typically for most metals. The description states that this is for soft metals such as copper and aluminium (as well as wood and plastic), but also mentioned iron. Iron is a hard metal and typically requires a cobalt type drill bit. If this bit was used on iron, I do not think it would last long. Overall a good value drill bit, but it needs to be used on the correct materials to get the best out of it.

This super large 22mm drill bit with a reduced shank to fir regular drills was perfect for making some holes larger or you can just drill 22mm holes straight away with it in softer materials. I like the design with the two flat sides on the reduced shaft and this meant it fit my cordless drill no problem which normally maxes out at 13mm sized bits. Then the main drill bit is a nice short length allowing great control and it was super sharp so cut into the wood very well. It has a clear marking on the shaft of the bit size, and you can get other sizes from the seller in the same style. Overall, it’s a very good solid well-made sharp bit that works perfectly with no wobble or vibration and priced at £9.49 it’s a fair price for a specialised single bit.

Cheap for a reason. After one single use on mild steel the drill was ruined and useless. Returned for a refund
