Cheap and basic, but does the job
RockJam BT1106XL-W Bluetooth Lightshow Speaker is a fairly chunky speaker and build quality isn't fantastic, essentially MDF wrapped in vinyl with the LED display up front. It's about what you'd expect for the price in terms of sound quality, it's lacking bass and very tinny, for me this isn't nearly loud enough either but granted at the volumes I listen to music maybe that's a fault with me rather than this speaker! It took a few attempts to get it to pair with my mobile but once paired it worked absolutely fine, easy to charge-up and easy to move around - although large it's not heavy, but as the speakers are on the side it does require you to play around a little with positioning to get the best sound. The controls are easy to use, but very basic so no control over bass and treble, also the LED display can be turned off too.Overall for a little under £40 it's as expected, decent but nothing particularly great - if you want something cheap and easy to play music then this will do the job, if you want better quality then of course you can expect to need to look elsewhere and pay a lot more too.

Remember the spectrum analyser?
This RockJam BT1106XL Bluetooth Speaker is about the size of a largish shoebox. The unit features 2 4 inch drivers, an internal amplifier with auxiliary input, a 1500mAh internal battery. In the box apart from the speaker you get a USB charging lead and 3.5mm audio cable. Setup is easy and I tested the unit with my iPad, Lenovo Tab 3 and UMI Iron Android phone. The build quality is okay for the price with a vinyl wrapped fibreboard enclosure and some nice touches like rubber feet and blue illumination of the volume control. The front panel behind which the LED lights nestle is glossy plastic. There are protective metal grilles over the driver units which are positioned at the ends of the reflex enclosure. Yes, the unit may get scuffed in the rough and tumble of life but should carry on working despite that as the internals seem well protected. The controls are simple with 6 buttons which select the light show, Bluetooth, and Aux input, a rotary volume control and control buttons which cover previous track/rewind, play/pause, fast forward/next track. Around the back is the aux input and on/off switch Attaching the Micro USB charging lead is easy and a 4 hour charge (from flat will give you a bit over 3 hours use at reasonable volume. In use the sound quality is fine for a unit of this type with ample clarity in terms of treble although the bass is a bit weaker than I expected from the size of the unit. Volume is ample for an average room in a newish build home and the light show can be set to follow the music or three other pre-programmed effects - it reminds me of the first time I saw a spectrum analyser in the 1980s. The light panel looks good when viewed as part of the speaker and you can't miss it although the intensity of light doesn't really light up the room.In summary, this speaker stands out thanks to its light panel and delivers a listenable sound for the money plus should stand the odd knock. The unit should be hit with many teenagers and is ideal for a bedroom or den.
