How often do you change the water?

It is recommended that the water be replaced with fresh water annually. But from personally experience, I have left the original water in the pillow for over 2 years without issues. Then again, the water where I live is chlorinated. I recommend if your on well water or non-chlorinated water supply, I would advise to replace annually.

Is there a zipper so that you can add / remove the fiber filling if youd like? Most pillows are stuffed too much for my preference.

No there is no zipper. It’s actually the just right amount of filling. I myself like fluffy pillows that are adjustable. The water level is the deciding factor. I adjust it according to my needs. It’s very comfortable and easy to maintain.

Can you sleep directly on the water side? I use a hot water bottle filled with cold water to help with hot flashes. Will this work?

You can sleep on either side, the back has the opening for adding water and it is flush. I don’t think it will keep you as cool, and will probably be too much hassle to refill with cold water every time. Ouh you could use ice cubes?

No instructions came with this. How much water do you need to add?

You fill the pillow to your confort plus a small amount of bleach to keep the water fresh. But they can leak easily. So do not drop of rough house them.
