Nietzsche is renowned for his invention of the "Superman," by which he meant someone who was beyond good and evil, who didn't follow the masses but went merrily on his own way. Nietzsche himself, however, was anything but a superman. He was a sickly man with poor eyesight who fainted at the sight of blood (while glorifying war). Brought up in a household of women, he had a profound desire to be heard, which may account for his bombastic pronouncements. He was actually a professor of linguistics, which he put to good use.
