These books are the reason my daughter can read
No exaggeration in the title, these books have been amazing. It was a struggle getting my 5y/o to want to read and I kept trying to find exciting books with fun pictures and simple words that she could be interested in. She gets discouraged easily with hard vocabulary and will just resort to looking at pictures. A local bookshop recommended Owly to me and it has been amazing. I only had to read a handful of pages to her so that she could learn how to read a graphic novel, what order to look at the panels, etc. The stories are engaging, she loves the characters, the panels are linked intuitively, and she has devoured the entire series over a course of weeks. The vocabulary is perfect for the age group without taking away from the story. There are occasional large words that she would need help with, but probably only 5-6 per book. Her reading has changed from a point of concern to one of her strong suits, solely because of her interest in these books.I can't recommend them highly enough. She recommends this book as the best in the series.

Graphic novels are not comic books!
As a retired teacher and avid reader, I have to admit to a bias about graphic novels. Visually, they were just sophisticated comic books... until I met Owly. Owly doesn't talk, but communicates his thoughts and feelings just fine. My grandson has CAS (Childhood Apraxia of Speech), and I thought Owly would give him the opportunity to "read". What a sweet series of graphic novels (not your grandma's comic books!)

Adorable
If you have a child that struggles with emotions, I highly recommend this book. As with all the other Owly books, the main character doesn't speak in words, but in pictures (which makes it relatable for kids on the spectrum and others with speaking difficulties). Owly only wants to help others but finds it difficult sometimes because others judge him to be scary before they actually speak with him. With his friend, Wormy, they work together to show others that kindness will come back to you if you stick with it and remain true to yourself.

Great book. We have been getting copies from the library but they weren’t in color. She’s happy this on was.

Must-have for anyone!!
Fantastic for any age! I'm a grown woman & love Andy Runton's works! And of course, every kid i know loves them too! They bring such comfort and joy when it's sorely needed nowadays. I believe everyone needs an Owly book...if not all of them 😁

Just a Little Blue
Someone I know once compared Owly to old peasant farmers who are friendly with everybody. But since he's from a raptor species, the payoff comes a lot slower at times, such as this one, in which Owly and friends attempt to build a birdhouse for a hostile bluebird and his family. It takes strong intervention from Mother Nature to goose things along, but by story's end, it's all good. Good for all ages, adults as well as children, when confronted with a stressful situation that's difficult to solve--serves as a good pot of tea for the soul. Don't overlook the detailed frontispieces in this book.
