Couture Hats: From the Outrageous to the Refined

Stuck in my house (like most of us) due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I was looking for distraction that wasn't costly. While I'd hardly wear most of these hats (a few are more conservative), it does give me some art ideas. Some of them, in a more conservative form, I might try on a hat -- probably a ready made one. While I am clearly not in the intended audience (some of the "fetish" ones startle even me), it does make an enjoyable read. The one thing that I did not like was the photos of the models smoking -- having worked in the health field and having had a close relative die from smoking-related problems, that really bothered me. Otherwise I enjoyed the book.

This book houses a cross section of modern milliners. It is not a book of historical designers nor is it a wealth of information on the designers themselves, but it is a nice reference for anyone interested in millinery. My one concern is that most, if not all of the pictures in the book, can be found online. The price isn't bad for them coming bound together, but if you can get a hold of the names of the designers highlighted in the book, you could probably build your own compendium.

This book provides a very exhilarating and fresh look at hats. Featured designers represent cutting edge work, which invigorates the imagination and inspires creativity. However, I regret that there is not more information on the designers and the context of each hat. For instance, it would be great to read about the themes that inspired the work, as well as the material used to create each piece. Craving Context!

This is a good book if you want to know what millinery designers are currently in the business, but that's all. I was looking for a book that was a reference for lots of hat designs by different designers and this was not.

Really neat book. Lots of fun pictures

Very disappointed with the arrival of this book. Bought as a gift, it was very marked on the cover, and cover torn... clearly not a new book. When ordering it did not state that the book was second hand. Not suitable now as a gift.
