very very basic and only the melodies...
I've been playing since March...about 8 months. I'm most of the way through the second Hal Leonard bass book.I bought this to scratch my classical itch. I have a background in voice, piano, viola da gamba and more recently ukulele.Yesterday I played through the entire book, just to check them out. Most everything is in the key of 'C' or 'G'.The tabs are written to play with open fingering...meaning open strings where possible. For me personally I was able play all of these far more easily and precisely using universal fingering (1-2-3-4).The universal fingering would have allowed them to choose more traditional keys for this as well.To make this more interesting it would have been nice to have very simple occasional 2 and 3 string chords to help dress things up a little.

Simple melodies that are excellent for learning to read music.
Great book to break up the monotony of learning scales, arpeggios, fretboard and such. If you don't play the open strings tablature by moving up to the 5th fret it's a great book to practice your sight reading skills with as the melodies are slow and simple. I suppose you can just ignore the tablature altogether, but I wasn't able to do that. My brain likes the easy way out!

Easy to play solos - but not to turn pages!
I purchased this book to use on my iPad as I practice electric bass. The solos in the book are easy to play for beginning bassists, and the book includes both standard notation and tab. But many of the solos are more than one page long, and if your hands are full of electric bass, you can't turn the page without interrupting the music. I guess not every book works in the Kindle or e-book format!

Pretty Good Tab Collection
The book provides exactly what it says, some easy classical bass tabs. Tabs are such that you are in one position throughout the song where possible. The only negatives are the type size is small and the songs too few thus 4 out of 5 stars.

Fun little book to play some easily recognizable classical melodies
Fun little book to play some easily recognizable classical melodies. Shame it doesn't have the full pieces, but good to get a quick sampling.

Bass and Classics
I am teaching myself and have gone through Method one. This book was a good addition after completing the first method book. I've enjoyed working on the music. Some are easy for quick progress, others require more practice. Fun!

And suddenly you're a concert
I had never played bass before. Partner bought me an acoustic for a birthday. Getting this book meant I could impress my grandmother and fool myself. Worth the cost for greensleaves alone.
