In the final, grim days of the mid-1942 British Retreat through Libya, a young British Army officer Captain David Holland was posted as missing and later presumed dead. His country mansion and great estates in England are inherited by his younger brother Charles. Evidence emerges that David may still be alive, so Charles sets out in search of his older brother, only to uncover the great mystery of David's life, love and ultimate honor. Filmed on location in Libya this classic tale of post war heroism provides an interesting and timely glimpse into the Bedouin culture and the struggle to reconcile life after the war.

Save your money... and your hearing.
I’ll spare you the whole “I never review stuff” speech and get right down to it. This is a great movie and I’m hugely disappointed that this “blu ray” doesn’t do it justice. The picture quality was great. The packaging was top notch. But the sound was atrocious. And I mean atrocious. It’s not just the mix, although admittedly the sound levels themselves were pretty terrible. What I take issue with is that during certain stretches of the movie the dialogue sounds like the speaker is wearing an old Foldgers Coffee can on his head. The echo is so bad as to render large portions of the dialogue indecipherable. I ran it through two high-end blu ray players and adjusted every sound setting I could come up with. The best I could do was flatten out some of the levels. Having seen this movie in various other formats, I know that a decent audio track exists... but this isn’t it. And I guess I missed the part about this being a DVD-R. I notice that it now very clearly identifies it as a made to order DVD-R. So maybe that’s on me for ordering this “blu ray” in hasty excitement and not noticing. I’m just usually pretty careful about that. Anyway, I suppose my copy could be an anomaly, who knows. At this point I’m out $20 and have a great movie that I can’t sit through. Not happy.

Solid and interesting
I've watched several of these British filmed adventures over the last few days. In many ways, they stand far above similar fare done by Hollywood during this same time period. The native desert people and their ways are treated with respect and care, and are never caricatures. People all try to do the right things for what they perceive are the right reasons. Yeah, I saw the ending coming from a mile away, but that's fine. And as I've found with these movies-- the location scenery and cinematography makes the land as much a character as the actors. If you're looking for a WW2 action film, this really isn't it. There are some sequences, but its far more about the characters. Do yourself a favor and watch some of these British adventures. They're worth a watch.

Camels, Tanks, and Ties
Haven't seen this one for 40 years. The course of history makes this movie's backstory more interesting. This was filmed before Gaddafi took power a decade plus later: so shots of post-war Libya and Tripoli are interesting (the US had an airbase there and the oil industry was doing a cracking business). Our plucky hero wears his white suit and black tie throughout even as he drives his camel maintaining standards for the Empire. The Libyan forces loaned their Leyland Cromwell tanks -- some good close ups of this vehicle that is not often seen in movies: and they seem to work which for Leyland is pretty good advertising for their exports … Not a complex story -- although the suggestion that a British Army officer might father a child with a local girl may have been a bit shocking for the times. You get to see a younger Donald Pleasance (today he'd be accused of cultural appropriation for his performance). The price was right for this one.

Exceptional find!
This 1956 WWII film is, indeed, an exceptional find! The cast and storyline are true to the best productions of this genre. This is worth watching if for no other reason than the cinematology. The fall of Tobruk, Nazi Germany has won and the Allies would seem to be defeated. A wounded British soldier finds his way to a Bedouin camp, is treated for his wound and finds that he loves the chieftain's daughter. By honor bound, he tries to rejoin his comrades at el Alamein. More than a decade passes and his brother sets out to solve the mystery of his disappearance. That should offer just enough information to make one curious. THE BLAK TENT has an interesting plot with all the necessary features of this genre.Recommended for those who appreciate this genre and for those who might find more than might be expected!Definitely agree with the first review . . . well worth the time. The movie follows the book . . . the writer advocated tolerance and understanding of Bedouin ways of life and culture in Arabia. Take time to read the credits and understand the location and history of this film. For me, it was an interesting commentary. The casting and use of 'extras' is well done.

"I can promise you the pastures are very good."
Beautiful scenery and very easy on the eyes Anna Maria Sandri are the film's positives. Negatives- the plot is on the slow side and the battle scenes far fetched to say the least. Overall The Black Tent is all right.

Technicolor at it's BEST here!!!!!!!
This is what a Technicolor movie should look like! This is a great Bluray transfer from VCI.The pictue is stunning.Super sharp and clear, the way a Bluray should look.It may be too slow moving for some viewers. It's a English production from Rank.Slow pans and close ups. Also the locations are beautiful and well photographed. It has a entertaining dance scene that makes you truly feel you are back in time and far away. The sound is a bit low so turn it up!They don't shoot oversaturated Technicolor like this, anymore! Beautiful story!

A Jewel of a Movie
This is a sleeper. With the most prominent actor being a budding Donald Pleasance (who has a minor role), the sheik does a remarkable job as do all of the main characters. The war was just a prop for the main story. An excellent reflection of cultural interaction in a positive light.
