かれこれ５０年近く前に（親に）買い与えられたシリーズ本のなかの、５冊です。 当時の表紙/裏表紙はマット仕上げだったのを良く憶えてますが、今では光沢仕上げ!? なのですね。値段も高くなったなりに「高級感」が増しました。 第二次大戦に勝利したのに、米国民全体の識字率が低いまま、という統計結果に（著者である）スース先生が大ショック。50歳を過ぎてから「子どもが文字や言葉に興味をソソられる教材本を作ろう」と一念発起して書き始めたのが、この『ビギナーブックス』シリーズです。 まさに、英語の音感や（字ズラから）その意味の姿カタチを思い浮かべやすいように、ストーリーも絵も、工夫の限りが尽くされてます。大人になって読む（見る？）と、あらためて痛感する、この珠玉の『英語 初齧(かじ)りガイド』。あるいは、はたまた「読むセサミストリート」？？？ 時代が変わろうと色褪せぬ「英語入門ファーストステップ」に、装丁も美麗な《小学低学年の古典／５冊パッケージ》をぜひ！ご覧あれ。

2歳になったばかりの姪っ子のクリスマスプレゼントとして買いました。 The Cat in the Hatは、英語圏で育った人なら誰でも知っている話ですが（私と妹はいわゆる帰国子女）、Hop on Popなどあまり馴染みのない話も、楽しそうです。セットで買って良かった、と思いました。また、ハードカバーなので、多少乱暴に扱っても大丈夫そうです。 ちなみに、今大学で英語を教えている妹は「これは、日本人が苦手とする発音がたくさん並んでいるね！」と感激し、旦那さん（帰国子女ではないが、仕事で英語を使うのに苦労しているため、自分の娘には英語の英才教育を希望）に読ませる、と言っていました。

My kids love these books. A must for any young, eager to learn mind.

2歳児の息子の為に購入しました。Dr.Seussは比較的長い話が多いので、夜寝る前に読むとこちらが疲れてきてしまいますが、リズミカルで、絵も面白く、ストーリーも面白いので、親子で楽しんで読んでいます。 今では、文字はまだ読めませんが、殆ど暗記して息子が自分一人でページをめくりながら読んでいます。

This is a better choice for younger children, like 2 years old. I had purchased the original set, with the Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, etc., which is at a much higher reading level, and more suitable for a 4-year-old. This set is better for a 2-year-old or 3-year-old, as the text is simpler. What I did not understand about Dr. Seuss when I was a child, is that these books are really good at playing different language, grammar, rhyming, etc. games. Each story has a very specific rule that it follows, and it's a good way to teach your child said rules.

Great quality hardcover books. Purchased as a baby shower gift- will likely be purchasing again for myself. Every child needs some Dr. Seuss.

We bought this for my six year old son who is learning to read (in Italian). He speaks English too and I had been wondering how to introduce him to English early reading books. This set is excellent for beginner readers - the five books are of different levels, with 'Hop on Pop' aimed at early readers and containing simple words and short phrases. Still, the author has managed to make it very funny and entertaining, even though it is not one story. The other four books are told as one story - they're just hilarious and had my son (and me) laughing out loud! Because so much rhyme is used in the stories, beginner readers quickly learn the look and sound of different words, and can guess the pronunciation of a new word that starts with a different letter. The books are also fun for parents to read to children. All in all highly recommended!
