Wanted to learn about casting things
Wanted to learn about casting things and this looked like a good book to start with.

guide
I was disappointed that the descriptions and tips ended at the emptying of the mold. I would liked to have been told how to finish the resin...ie...carve?,sand?,burn?any little outcroppings left by the mould surface.

One of, if not *the*, worst book(s) I have ever seen
This book touches on a lot of things about moldmaking and casting - and special effects, and props, and ... It repeats itself repeats itself many places and repeats itself many places. The section about vacuum forming is half written and doesn't have any of the illustrations it refers to - and the information about creating a home vacuum forming system is so discordant and incomplete that I wouldn't recommend trying to follow it to anyone but someone with a degree in manufacturing engineering. Sections about spincasting start talking about casting resin, then suddenly are about the high temperatures involved with metals. I still have no clue of what the section about a master model was trying to convey - master, model, mold, plug and all seemed to be used interchangeably, resulting in nothing but confusion. The illustrations that *are* included in the book are of such laughable (lack of) quality that they make me wonder if the publisher thinks this is a joke book - most of them look like they came off a woodblock press. Over half the entries in the glossary at the book are totally unrelated to anything mentioned elsewhere in the text - why is "airbrush" in the glossary?? I can guess what "glove molds" are from reading this book, but the description of creating one is so confusing that I wouldn't want to try to do so based on this text alone. I had some rough ideas of what's involved in moldmaking before I read this book - and I don't think I know any more now that I've read it than when I started. If anyone other than the author read this book before it was published, I would be surprised: Anyone with even a trace of editorial skills would have sent it back for a rewrite. I've never heard of Swordworks Books before, but considering the quality of this book, I don't think I would seriously consider buying another volume they publish.Don't waste your money or time on this book - it's one of the most poorly written ones I have *ever* seen.

Too basic if you have any experience.
I was hoping to find some new information, but as I already have some experience, but definitely need some good hard advice, this book falls short. As written is is easy to read, but often repeats itself. Especially in the first three chapters when it refers to latex molding. There are few specifics provided regarding which materials are compatible, and it repeats some info while skipping other details. This may give an okay overview of the types of moldmaking options available, it does little for providing a how-to for my needs. An extra star for being easy to read, if you overlook the lack of copy-editing.

There are better books on the subject
This book (or should I say "booklet")does not live up to its title. It's not well organized, looks like it hasn't been proofed. in some cases the text is more suitable to a how-to clip on youtube than to a book. illustrations and pictures are very low quality and most of them do not serve their purpose, unless this purpose is to fill space on a page. some of the pictures are taken straight of the net, some are not in context with the paragraph they appear in.all in all, this book is more of an overview of mold making and casting, but definitely not "an in depth manual" as described in the editorial review.if you know your way around mold making and casting, this book will not help you. if you know nothing about the above, this book will not help you either. I'm trying to find something good to say about this book, and all I come up with is its low price. not a good reason to buy a book, let alone a guide. I bought this book along with "The Prop Builder's Molding & Casting Handbook" - what a difference for 4$...bottom line: don't buy this book. put an extra 4$ and buy "The Prop Builder's Molding & Casting Handbook".

Bootlegged Youtube Content
I am a veteran mold maker so I am always looking for new books on the subject and curious about new mold methods and materials. Having been a professional mold maker for almost 20 years, I have seen a lot of books and videos on the subject. Most instructional books and videos, however bad or poorly produced, still contain some nugget of wisdom worth the price paid. This truism does not apply to "Modeler's Guide To Mould Making And Resin Casting. This book was a profound disappointment. The content looks like it was ripped from articles and videos online. Most of the pictures were photoshopped screen captures from youtube videos. Some of the pictures are at complete odds with the text such as a picture of silicone being applied to a head sculpture that is captioned as "latex applied". I know it is silicone because that image was ripped from one of my youtube videos. Note to author: at least watch my video in it's entirety before co-opting the content.Avoid this book and get the prop builders molding and casting handbook. Much better book written by someone with a real, practical understanding of the trade.

DO NOT BUY
What a load of rubbish, childishly written poor photos if you can call them that, processes poorly explained.I saw the poor reviews and bought it anyway it couldn't be that bad right, wrong wrong wrong. Don't make my mistake of buying it and then having to go through all the hassle of returning it. I had to give it 1 star to publish this review it doesn't deserve it reiterate Do not buy it.

Good book to browse
I quite like this book. Yes the pictures are not too good, and it should have been proof read before printing. However It didn't cost a lot, and it does contain most of what you need to cold cast artefacts. I regularly pick it up and read parts of it for information. I find it quite a good read. So far not disappointed by it.

book review....so so
vague and uninteresting, not really novice friendly and most information would probably be already known to regular user..dont really see the point of it

content ruined by poor editing and many mistakes
This was a bit poorly edited - it came across as lab notes that have been scanned in and OCR's- with many words substituted for others that are simply incorrect. The figures are hard to read, and some sections are simply truncated. Tabulations or lists are broken, and the vacuum forming section is terribly put together.Which is a shame - because this does cover a lot of the subject neatly. Do not make this your first book, at least until the author has spent time revising this.

Not worth buying.
This book was obviously not proofed, it is full of errors. It’s is also really badly written. I tried hard to read it but in the end gave up and returned it. Really not worth buying.
