Perfectly Appropriate for Preschooler!
We purchased the Hape Mini Band Set Five Music Instruments for a gift for my daughter’s Pre-K3 class to enjoy, so I was pleased to find a set that included 5 QUALITY pieces. Let’s be honest, Preschoolers are not the most delicate of handlers so I wanted to be sure whatever I chose for the class could withstand more than a week at the hand of a 3 year old learning through creative play. When the set arrived my daughter was so ecstatic! She loved that it was her size, and wasn’t “baby” (her words). I was also impressed with this fact as well, as it has proven difficult to find toys that are “age appropriate” for this somewhat limbo age. I have found in other toys that although noted for 3+ they are either too infantile and really don’t hold her attention or others are too difficult for small hands with still developing motor skills to maneuver, but again labeled 3+. The Mini Band set was just the right medium, the design was not too infantile and the pieces were just the right proportion for the toddlers. My daughter was so excited to give her class these instruments and “rock out” as she stated. Over-all I am super pleased with the purchase; I think music is such an important part of a child’s development but so many times the instruments for these smallest of learners miss the bar in quality and over all sound, however Hape hit the ball out of the park on this set!

High quality instruments - fun for the whole family
The media could not be loaded. The mini ukulele alone is worth the price - after my husband showed our 13m (at the time) how to use it, she strums on it near-daily. She's not very good at it and I'm afraid I don't know how to play myself so I can't guide her much, but she loves playing with it while watching Coco. At 15m now, she still plays with it almost every day -- not all toys have such staying power with her! The tambourine, rainmaker and clacker aren't quite as interesting to her, though the egg shaker is also a favorite especially when her friends come over. It's a handsome wooden piece that has a good weight to it, sized perfectly for little hands. I highly recommend this set to anyone who wants to encourage their child to explore musically.

Music fun for all!
After recently opening several birthday gifts, I can tell you this is by far the BEST packaging. It is So easy to open and get out without any twist ties or plastic ties to try to cut. I love that Hape thought about that detail and made it easy enough my kids can open it on their own.The music instruments are high quality. Just what we are used to with all Hape products. We are most impressed with the ukulele. Complete with real metal tuning pegs. It actually has a good sound to it. It’s become my old children’s favorite. The rain maker is fun even for the older kids to watch and listen to all the beads fall. There are also a couple smaller instruments a shaker and clapper that are fun to use and a great size for smaller hands but also can fit adult hands for playing with the kids. These are all so well made and with 4 kids at home from 2 to 8 years old we have different options and they can all play together.

Actual instruments
These aren't just noisy toys for a child to imagine making music with. Any child can pick up a pillow and pretend it's a guitar while signing the notes. These are bona fide instruments you can tune, and produce music with.Obviously they aren't exactly the highest grade of instruments, but they are fun, relatively durable, and varied enough to keep a kid interested. The castanet is the black sheep in this family, and though it does work, it's just good for producing headaches. The rattle is surprisingly easy for a child to make a great rhythm with. The rainmaker isn't necessarily stupid... I believe kids will enjoy watching the internals of this for a short time and get bored, but it's a nice 'extra' instrument' and it's also the perfect thing to give that one guy you know will make a terrible racket if they have the chance. You can't screw up a rainmaker. The tambourine is a surprise favorite. It's durable, fun to use, and it sounds good. This is the instrument I recommend to the adults playing with the kids. If you've ever used a real tambourine you'll be disappointed in the toy version, but if you manage your expectations you'll realize this one is very good for a toy version. The guitar was better than expected. the strings are very durable, probably expected to last the life of the guitar, and are useful for teaching a child about how stringed instruments are tuned.I would add that all of these instruments, aside from the castanet, are pretty low volume compared to the 'real' thing. You can close the door on a whole band of kids and the noise won't be bad at all.The whole set is beautiful and feels like a higher quality toy than what most kids are getting these days. I genuinely think these simple instruments can inspire a child to appreciate music, and are a great alternative to many electronic toys. The price may seem high to you before you see the set, but it's probably a good value for the actual quality of this product. It's for a kid you genuinely care about.

Incredible for the price
I didn't expect much at this price. The instruments are soooo much better than I expected. They are sturdy, musically sound, and beautiful. My grandson loves them.

Durable enough for wild preschoolers.
Our 4(girl) and 5(boy) year old love these. We thought they'd enjoy an introduction to instruments and experimenting with making their own music. They often drop them and strum the uke way too hard and they take the beating with grace. Probably our best 2018 yuletide purchase.
