Needed a retractable lamp and outlet in my garage. Only have 2 available outlets in my garage so I purchased to give me more access to another outlet that this light has on it. Dual light and outlet allows for an extension cord that retracts by simply pulling on the cord. Works great and have been using for several months without one problem. Seems durable and works for my occasional use at home.

OK, here goes.I ordered this cord reel on Sunday, and got it on Wednesday. It was defective. It did not lock off the cord. I would pull 15 feet of cord off...and it just kept retracting...no good.I sent it back using Amazon's return instructions. I printed out the UPS label from Amazon, repacked the cord reel (always save the box...til you know for sure) and took it to the UPS drop off store.By the time I got home from the UPS store (10 minutes) I got an email from Amazon saying that UPS had alerted Amazon that the product was shipped.Amazon immediately shipped me a new one...that does work...and I got it on Saturday.This one works great. I hung it on the wall using the U-shaped bracket. The reel will pivot on the pin that is used so you can pull cord off at any angle and you get no binding. This morning I used the cord to to plug in a buffer I was using to put a coat of wax on my car in the driveway. (winters coming). It worked great and the cord reel is a real work saver. No more searching or untangling ratted up cords.Great Work Amazon...and Nice product Designers Edge.

My garage is probably like yours. It was built years ago and lacks enough electrical outlets. This baby is now hanging in the middle of the ceiling and the cord can reach every corner in a jiffy. It's well made and designed and works like a champ.

This light is awesome. It is so much more heavy duty than I expected. I actually kind of expected it to be a little light weight and tinny because of the price, but that is so not the case. It is surprisingly heavy and the cord itself is very stout. It mounts with a simple hook bolt (provided) or a mounting bracket if you're mounting it to the wall. I used the hook bolt and mounted it to the ceiling of my shop in less than a minute. Being the cautious type that I am, I also zip tied the power cord to a ceiling bracket as a safety catch in case it somehow came off the hook. I also bent the hook mostly closed after hanging the light on it. As I said, the light is heavy and I would hate for it to somehow come loose and land on top of one of my cars. I highly doubt that would happen, but better to be safe than sorry.

Takes to long to receive and no instructions

I agree with the numerous other reviewers who say that this electrical extension cord reel is poorly made and dangerous. You do have to be careful when you let go of the extended cord. It can become a dangerous whip with a half pound weight on the end. More importantly, after less than a dozen uses, it shorted out and quit working. When things go wrong, always go back and look at Amazon reviews. They are enlightening! Other reviewer's frustrations with getting the manufacturer to take care of their problems dissuaded me from contacting them. Also, does anyone else have trouble finding contact information for manufacturers whose products are sold on Amazon. I have to dig deep in to Amazon to find that information, and sometimes I can't. At any rate, this is about the product and I decided to just report the shorting problem to the CETL. This product received their certification. I'd encourage others to do the same, if they are having similar problems. It's easy. However, the photograph displayed on the Amazon site makes it appear as if its' made of chrome plated metal. Not so. What appears to be shiny chrome in the picture is actually grey plastic. As far as I can tell, the whole thing, except the hanger, the wire and the screws, is made of plastic. That turns out to be fortunate, since it's propensity for electrical shorts would be that much more dangerous if it were made of metal.

Very bright cord retracts easy

Not the most expensive but works great. I disassembled it to remove the ratcheting function and it perfect for my usage

Been using since Sep 19 2019.Today April 24 2021 it started to SMOKE and short circuit. Smoke was coming out, the unit completely fried.This could have been much worse and dangerous, I have never seen an extension cord burn and short circuit like that.I was using a table saw at the time, just the saw, nothing else was plugin, so there was no over power draw.
