Better than nothing!
No, they're not perfect, and they'll come on near any bright lights, but for a quick weld they're great to be able to throw on in a pinch. Mine auto-darkened instantly and I could see the puddle as I was welding. Probably a #9 or #10 shade when dark I'd say.Of course, these won't protect your face from arc burn while wearing them, so definitely don't wear ONLY these unless you don't have much hair and won't be welding for more than about 10 seconds. Otherwise you risk severe burns.I suppose they could also be used to observe welding from a safe distance, but again, I'd be careful to stay well away (at least 25 feet) even WITH them on if you're not otherwise protected.

Great... with problems
These welding glasses work great. Perfect for those tight spots where you just can't get into with a helmet on. I work in a repair/fabrication shop, and vehicle frame repair is a good portion of our work. These glasses are a "must have" for this. When not darkened, you can clearly see your weld, and when darkened, it's just like a helmet. These came with a protective carrying case, and a replacement set of shielding lenses. Now for the not-so-great stuff. Obviously they do NOT offer face protection. Don't go thinking these are your fulltime welding protection. They are EYE PROTECTION ONLY. My facial burns are a searing reminder. The glasses broke on the 1st day of use. Where the arms attach to the front frame, the plastic is soft, and the arms pulled out of the frame, breaking it. They're still 100% functional, but I have to assemble them before using each time. I recommend extremely careful handling, as the quality of the plastic frame is less than desireable. I would not recommend purchase of these UNLESS you're like me and absolutely need eye protection for tight space welding. It gets 2 stars withheld due to weak frames. With durable frames, I'd give 5 stars.

Lightweight, works great, should have bought a long time ago
If I had known about these previously, I would have bought them a long time ago. Much more convenient when you're trying to weld in tight spaces like having to dip your head under the dash, for example. Auto darkening response is great and the light weight makes these very comfortable. Small negative that I see is that they aren't quite as dark as they could be (arc is brighter than my full-size helmet. Don't forget to take off the plastic protective film on both sides of the clear lens.

Work great but still cover your face !!!
These are great for a quick tack weld or for loaners at your shop so the no so smart ones keep there sight. They are quick seem good enough for arc and mig ( I'm not sure what shade there rated at I don't believe it says anywhere on Amazon or any paperwork I think if I'm wrong sorry ) but all and all they do what they claim great and are less hassle then a big heavy hood. Don't forget YOU WILL GET FLASH BURN ON YOUR FACE if it's uncovered.

Not for continuous welding, great for tacking things.
This is great for a fitter's helper working with a fitter/welder.They're like wearing sunglasses outside, and being able to tack stuff without wearing a hood. And for welding under a vehicle.... these are great.
