Altura Photo AP-UNV1 DSLR Camera Flash Speedlite for Canon Nikon Sony

Executive summary. Manual flash that works. Relatively feature free. Good for those who need a flash only occasionally and don't mind manual. Good for the semi posed indoor group snapshot.You have to understand what you're getting. It's an inexpensive manual flash with a relatively low guide number. Adjust your expectations accordingly. I'm using it with a Sony Nex 6. It works. It kind of dwarfs the camera but any flash that uses 4 AA batteries will do the same thing. It's easy to take a couple of test shots to adjust the flash intensity for the ambient light. It's a manual flash so you have to do stuff manually. My flash needs are minimal. I do a small amount of indoor photography. Every now and then I want some fill flash outdoors. This fills the bill. If I took a lot of pictures where my camera needed a little help in the light department I'd invest more money in a flash.

. Cycle time is very good at ~3 seconds from full power discharge with fresh batteries, on the lower three power settings it can keep up with continuous shutter of my Canon T5i for 8 or 9 shots. I have also played with the slave mode out to 25 feet (camera to slave distance) with reliable results, (camera flash unit gives good pix out to about 15-17 feet and this Altura gets me past 80 feet of effective range). The quick access power settings gives me more control over what part of a scene to expose for (with a TTL you mess with ISO or exposure settings in camera menu).The 270 degree head swivel is handy off camera to improve slave response when working around non reflective surfaces, while not limiting aim of the flash head.

I purchased this Speedlite on Amazon and had no problems with it, until one day it made pop noise and stopped working. I contacted Altura about repair and without hesitation they asked me to ship back the damaged unit to them and they, in turn, shipped a new unit to me. I'm very happy with Altura and the warranty coverage for the unit.

So Far its doing great! I do recommend using top quality batteries or rechargable batteries. I havent had the chance to put it through all of its functions, but so far no problems at all. Also the company Digital Goja is awesome. In an unforeseen situation they stepped up and went above and beyond. I have already recommended this company and will continue to do so.Now if anything changes as far as the function of the flash unit, I will update the post. Great unit from Altura Photo and Digital Goja with a great price get it, you will be happy you did.

I am a hobbyist photographer with very little knowledge compared to some. I knew I needed an external flash to make my photos looks better quality in bad lighting & I sure chose the right one for me! I have the canon rebel t3i, I attached the flash & starting shooting right away. I can not wait to learn more about my flash & use it in an upcoming wedding I am shooting for. Very impressed.

Really nice little speedlight. This is a MANUAL flash - not ETTL but if you are shooting Off Camera Flash, it will be to your advantage to have a couple of these in your kit. Very easy to adjust and consistent light. Also, very fast recycling time. I use them for fill light and almost anything in my set up. Can be used as a primary light in many situations.

This flash really soften the subjects you are photographing. I am happy I purchased it. The only con is that it's not the best quality of plastic and I am afraid that it may crack eventually. I am an amateur so it's a good purchase for what I do. If I keep up my photography I will eventually purchase a sturdier one in the future.

Updated rating... Flash unit has stopped working. All the status lights remain on with a slight flickering and the unit of course doesn't work at all. Was generally impressed with Altura Photo's offerings but something went south with this one. Sad.

It is not compatible with my Canon T5i, even though it said it was when I was reading the info. I will keep it as a flash for off camera. But it is NOT compatible!!! I was rather disappointed and felt like I was mislead.

I was surprised by the quality of this flash. Work perfectly on my old Pentax and I used it as a strobe, the charging time was faster than I could push the button. A good buy for anyone even if the shipping is quite expensive but the overall price is very reasonable for the quality.

great flashes--even with the hefty delivery charge these are a great price...I use them as a 4th and 5th (I bought 2) so don't need TTL..these work perfect as slaves and manual with radio trigger

Great low cost flashIf it were higher cost I would fault it for having a weak photo receiver in slave mode (won't trigger in a bright room via slave 1 mode) or I could fault it for the bounce card that sometimes gets stuck in the Flash. But at the cost of this it's great. Nice and powerful build quality is good.We'll worth the money

I bought this on price as it was the cheapest flash I saw that was advertised to work on Canon Power shot cameras. However it did not work on my Canon powershot S5IS. Thought it was defective or broken. The slave function worked but not the hot shoe. However it did work on my G15 so it turns out my S5IS Is set up by canon only to work with Canon flashes. Wish I had known that as ad says it works with all powershot. Otherwise, it seems to be a good slave flash for my purposes.

Great flash for a great price. Easy to use and quick to load between pictures.I use it as a remote flash on a stand. The variable output is very useful for portraits.

Works great. Used with T3i. Came reasonably quick, seems solid, nice and powerful, swivels well, great bounce card, would definitely but again.

Arrived quickly, reasonable price and seams to do the job, I need to learn more about using a flash still, but I am sure this will do the trick

Works from time to time lol sometimes it does sometimes its not., not reliable., had to go ahead and buy a new speed light just because can't rely on this one.

Good bang for the buck. Flash works great with my Cannon Rebel EOS T2i.

Dollar for lumens, this may be the best deal in flashes. Mine is coming on two years old now and still works like a charm

i give the speedlite 5 stars based on what you get for your money , a good flash unit on or off camera.
