I am in awe
I have been hesitant to buy an automatic litterbox. Hesitant for YEARS. I just kept reading reviews about how hard they were to maintain, or cats hating them, or they break right away. It's a lot of money to spend on a luxury item that may not work... I am beyond pleased to give this litter box 5 stars. I've had it for 2 days so far. I WILL return to adjust my review if it malfunctions or dies. But in the meantime, it is wonderful! The setup was unbelievably easy. It came well packaged and fully assembled. I pulled it out, plugged it in, put the litter in, downloaded the app, connected it to wifi and that was that. I have 3 cats. I have tried all other variations of odor elimination that I could think of. Cleaning multiple times a day, multiple boxes, enclosed boxes, stainless steel boxes, litterbox furniture, ozonating air purifiers, different litters, air fresheners. Nothing made the smell anything different than something I wanted to bury away somewhere. I was getting desperate. The smell is completely gone. I smell nothing in the room with the litter robot AND it is currently the only litter box. I intended to keep the others, partially because I worried one of my 3 kitties wouldn't like it, but the cats downright love it. I get notifications on my phone of them using it and it interrupting the cycles because they are curious. It's whisper quiet and it moves slowly so there's nothing to fear. There is currently no smearing mess in the box and it's been used 47 times. The waste bin is only 10% full. It monitors all of that in the app and tracks their weights (which helps it identify which cat is in the box.) The sensor that detects the cat in the box is ultra sensitive so it stops a cycle the moment a cat even slightly enters it. I have no fear of it harming my cats. It has a small footprint, certainly by comparison to the litterbox furniture or multiple boxes. It looks high tech, so it isn't unsightly. Im in awe. It's a lifesaver. And if it lives long, it's worth that seemingly insane price tag. The ONE hurdle is that they track litter out of the box. I need a larger mat for them to walk on after hopping out.

Life-Changing
So far, so good. This thing is amazing, and it's changed things in our household dramatically. We have four cats. My wife, and I, work very high-stress jobs, and it's been a struggle to get our teenagers to help with caring for THEIR cats. The job of cleaning the litter boxes, while it is supposed to be the responsibility of the kids....well, has fallen to my wife and me each and every day. After struggling to get them to properly care for their animals, we finally bit the bullet and dropped the bucks for the Litter Robot 4 (of course, we love the kitties too). All I can say is "wow." The people who write that it's life-changing are not bluffing. The box is always clean. It runs automatically. It identifies our cats by weight. Every few days we just have to replace the bag in the bottom drawer. All four of our cats took to it right away, even the one we thought would never use it. It's incredibly easy to clean, and the app gives you more data than you need. Finally, the kit with the first batch of maintenance supplies is really nice to start as well. The term "life-changing" is not an exaggeration. It's expensive but in the long run, if you can manage it, the Litter Robot is absolutely worth it.

Expensive but worth it
I have had mine about a week and I am loving it. I had bought another brand a few months ago and it was a lot more trouble than just normally scooping litter. It went in the trashcan this week because that was all it was really good for. But the Whisker 4 has lived up to everything it says it would do. There's been no incidences, no errors ,no having to reset it, no having to reprogram or anything. It's just works the way it's supposed to. My cats started using it right away.

DONT LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS!
This was a game changer I was kind of scared bc of some of the bad reviews but this machine is absolutely amazing!!! If your on the fence buy it already!!! There is literally 0 SMELL!!!! I have it next to my desk and my cat pooped and after the cycle finished there was 0 smell , I've had it for a couple of days and there is no pee/poop or litter smell! The cats love it and it barely uses any litter! I am absolutely amazed by this machine. It even has a light inside the dome and the app is super cool; I always know when my cats use the bathroom which I find it cool!

Plastic over priced complicated junk
Complicated where it should be simple and simple where it should be complicated. If you’ve never hat a cat before you can stop reading since you haven’t had the enjoyment of rectangular containers of cat litter which is what I will compare this $850 (after ridiculously priced accessories such as a plastic step extender for $75 or so). A little background - we purchased this monstrosity because we were going on an extended vacation and drank the cool aid of all the paid influencers. The good - it looks cool? If you’ve never hat like that sort of big bulky cheap plastic look) The bad - the software is clunky and has a steep learning curve BUT after some repeated mistakes you can figure out how to “trick it” into basic operation. The unforgivable - everything else. We have one semi chubby tuxedo cat a little on the older side. This thing only held enough litter for 2 days in our case, it doesn’t hold enough litter and you can’t put more than that diminimus amount / it just dumps the excess into the waste bin. So we went away and we thought that someone coming over every 2-3 days was cool, it wasn’t/ 2 days max or it’s empty. You have to load the software and all I kept getting is various alarms most days such as “litter is low”, cycle stopped due to error, etc. Old school litter boxes? For $20 each you can buy a few and fill them up with litter, never have to worry about 2 days, in an emergence they’ll easily go to 7 days. Mess - you have to use sticky clumping litter and the surface area is small so the cat gets litter stuck all over it and then you see the footprints all over the house. Old school boxes? You can use whatever cat litter you like. Clean up - when we came back from our vacation there was sticky smelly litter all over the inside liner, all over the discharge sides, all over the filter on top of the stupid monstrosity!!! You are supposed to keep wiping the inside of this stupid thing with the ridiculously priced wipes, NO THANK YOU! How does this simplify my life over regular litter boxes (it doesn’t, complicates it). Plan on spending at least 2 hours every month on cleaning and maybe another hour or two keeping this thing running. I had to disassemble the stupid thing, scrape all the cat litter, use a hard brush with plenty of detergent on every surface I could get to and then rinse everything / over an hour touching nasty caked on litter. See pic to get an idea of some of the disassembly. I took the picture after I spent over an hour cleaning it. In conclusion, if you like throwing around $800 plus on something that takes double the space of a cat litter box, requires a steep learning curve and requires daily cleaning and refilling every 2 days, I have a bridge to sell you (or whatever the stupid saying is), text me!

bumpy adoption/learning curve but ultimately worth.
I held off for a long time (however they have been around) on an automatic litter box. All the reports about them just not working made spending $700 on one feel like the lottery rather than a soundly reasoned purchase. I have 2 cats and had 3 litter boxes and it just became a lot to lug them around to get them to the 40lb box of litter or the inverse to change and clean them - so I did it. I have two young cats and both had weird litterbox habits that I didn't know about until the litter robot. One was only using the litter box once a day and the other was in it every 45 minutes during the day. Both were probably doing this since they were kittens but had no other symptoms and these habits were not visible to me when they had litterboxes in the recesses of the home. Although still not completely diagnosed, a prescription food made a big difference - and the data from the robot is what gave me the nudge to take them in. That said : 1) They say you need a hard clumping litter. What they don't say is that it also needs to be low dust - otherwise the sensors will constantly be dirty and it will never know how much litter is in the box etc, all of which is critical to it being truly automatic. Tidy cats clay clumping litter works fine from a clumping perspective but it caused too much dust so I was cleaning the sensors daily, sometimes multi times a day. 2) They say you should consider a carpet tray if your carpet is X thick because it might skew the numbers. The reality is mine didn't weigh anything at all without a carpet tray. If you have carpet at all get the carpet tray. All of the functionality and insights include some element of weight and if that isn't working right, it all seems a bit squirrely. 3) Get a vacuum attachment that can actually vacuum the sensors and plan to maintain the thing at least once a week. 4) Even with a lower dust litter, the sensors still randomly get something on them and start thinking a cat is constantly in there or complaining about needing to get cleaned. It's a litter box, which has dust and cat hair involved. At $700 a pop, being able to handle cat hair and litter dust seems like basic acceptance criteria. So for 3 weeks of my experience, the litter box kind of worked ok but wasn't living up to my automated dreams and I was constantly maintaining it. Then I got the carpet tray and changed litters and it's much better, albeit not what I would expect at this price point. Pros : 1) it definitely eliminates the need to scoop 2) it reduces the amount of litter I use overall 3) it doesn't smell at all using Boxie litter. 4) it's super easy to empty it. 5) it gave me visibility into my cats' litter habits Cons : 1) I now definitely have very specific cat litter needs, so less freedom 2) definitely requires weekly maintenance - and potentially cleaning sensors several times a week. It's one more household appliance whining about something. All in, I'm spending less money per month on litter (enough to pay for it in a couple years) and less time and effort keeping the house clean and my cats are healthier.

Highly recommend!
Absolutely fantastic auto box. So easy to set up and operate. I did take off the 'protector' thing on the front to make the opening bigger. (I'm curious as to the purpose of that thing. It makes no difference to the operation of the item as far as I can see.) I still have one cat who doesn't use this litter box but he probably would if I took away all the other litter boxes in the house. Definitely worth the money.
