Challenging puzzle!
This is not a puzzle for the fainthearted! If you are a seasoned 1000 (or more piece) puzzler this is a challenge. The repeating color makes it tricky to find piece positions. Some call it is cheating, but I rely on a good sharp photo to locate where a piece goes. Even with that technique I still found this one a handful! Quality is okay by today's standards; I find few puzzles are as thick and sturdy as puzzles where in the good old days. It was fun and if you are up for a good challenge, this is it.

3.56 Stars but feeling generous because of you know, quarantine brain.
IF I COULD I'D GIVE IT 3.56 STARS I WOULD AND I DID. Okay, we are anti-coronavirusing and ordering/plowing through puzzles like it's OUR JOB. I think it's still crazy that my husband and youngest one sees puzzling (is that a word?) as a non-spoken activity but still deems it family time. Meanwhile I'm basically carrying on a monologue with ZERO feedback from my supposedbly (name that TV show) loved ones. Anyhoo... I have to say that Galison is usally good. I have the feathers one, a Frank Lloyd Wright one...two of the popsicles because I'm an idiot and bought it twice and they all have been GOOD (note to self: I need to write a review). GOOD PUZZLES as in high quality pieces, pictures that don't separate from the cardboard, pieces that feel right when they click/match up. Which leads me the vintage pencils, OY. Where should I start? Oh yes, opposite day of the other Galison ones I bought. But let's start with the good: Love the photo of the vintage pencils, love the searching and separating the colors and font. The gold foil pieces/backs of the pencil which holds the eraser thingee is a PITA to find but hey, that's why it's a good puzzle and not one for dodo birds (another puzzle picture opportunity - you're welcome Galison folks). The bad: The pieces coming out of the box felt, as my kids would say it - weak. It doesn't feel high quality. Kinda like a step above dollar store grade stuff you know what I mean? Also, The pieces kind of fit but not really but well kind of wait maybe... No, it doesn't fit. And when you try to "unlock"/"unpiece" (clearly I need to be acquainted with puzzle terminology) the photo part kinda separates which is HIGHLY STRESSFUL. Like Galison folks, I'm already stuck at home with my hubby, 14 year old and 18 year old (note that she is not partaking in puzzling bc she's a fun pre-adult who likes to blame us/me for the state of the world) and 20 year old (that came back from college and is quarantined in our master bedroom and pokemoning or whatever the gaming scene is these days)....CAN YOU NOT ADD MORE ANXIETY TO MY LIFE BY JUST SMACKING EXTRA GLUE ONTO THE PHOTO? Anyhow you can clearly see I'm not going insane staying at home. Oh yeah, Also puzzles are stressful people. How many times do I swear WE ARE MISSING PIECES? Like the act of puzzling is already anxiety ridden enough the least you can do is make high quality pieces that have a good puzzle hand feel (see? I'm good at puzzle jargon yes I am. Though that term has obvs double entendre there. Soz will keep it PG-13), pieces that click properly and surely and adamantly, and when you have to unclick/unpuzzle it surely you shouldn't live through 1000 moments (not a hyperbole, it is a 1000 piece puzzle amirite) of the photo separating from the meh cardboard that it is haphazardly glued to. Oh yeah and there are like a few puzzle pieces which are like "WHAT DID THEY DO THERE?" Normal. Normal. Normal. WHOA NELLY. Okay, Phew it fit but someone got preettty sloppy on qc-ing the normal looking-ness of puzzle pieces. So yeah, 3.56 stars. Sorry. I will continue buying Galison just bc, you know, home quarantine but am hoping the other Galison will be good like the others I have yet to write a review for. Okay bye!

Challenging Experience
A friend and I have been enjoying doing 500 piece Galison jigsaw puzzles and I decided to tackle a larger one on my own. I loved the colors of this one and was curious about what a puzzle that uses foil is all about. I should have known from the orientation of the books that this would be especially challenging, but I didn't give it much thought UNTIL I started putting it together. It was quite an experience! Every element is cocked 45 degrees, which means finding lines that connect is very difficult. Once you've got the edges in place you need to work with colors and textures more than lines or shapes. As I worked the puzzle I was certain pieces were missing, but that was because at corners there are so many colors at play from adjacent books that it is difficult to identify pieces. So I worked with what was clear and found it became easier as pieces disappeared from the large tray I use. I eventually got there and NO pieces were missing.I very much enjoyed doing the puzzle, perhaps in part because of the challenge, but definitely the colors pop and the puzzle is beautiful. Galison really has their act together. They include a color photo of the puzzle on a separate sheet of paper so you can easily check details. I use both the top and bottom of the box to hold pieces I've sorted by color. All in all a great experience. I have another puzzle arriving tomorrow, but that is a smaller one I'll save for my friend. I need to do a bit more shopping... which doubtless makes Amazon VERY happy. LOL

Very nice puzzle
Good puzzle. Nice, sturdy pieces with an easy-to-see image on the box as well as a printed sheet image inside. Pieces click together well with very few "maybe-maybe-not" connections. Interesting picture, too. I really like linear puzzles with clearly defined colors, so this really fit the bill. Took my sister and I maybe two afternoons to work through. A single could probably do it in a Saturday.

So much fun!
Loved this puzzle! The books actually have the gold leafing like real books. It was beautiful when finished. It is on the diagonal so a little more of a challenge but so much fun!

Great design, mostly great piece quality
This is a great design that is printed well and the foiled details are fun. I took off 1 star because a few of the pieces were starting to peel apart when I first opened the puzzle. I’m guessing it wasn’t cut all the way in spots so separation caused the cardboard to weaken. I will do this puzzle again in the future and would order other designs from this company. If you’re looking for a 1000 piece puzzle that would be fun to put together with other people or something that isn’t too easy but not super intimidating I suggest this. You can break up into sections by what pencil you’re putting together which makes it doable.

Affordable and Fun!
I got this for my dad and the pieces are very sturdy and good, this particular design was very fun to put together and while fairly challenging in some parts it was still fair and balanced. The puns were fun to read as we were putting it together! 10/10 would recommend!

All-around great puzzle!
I've become huge fan of Galison puzzles - awesome quality and print and fit. On the easy to hard spectrum this one was easy...but I was in the mood for easy so it provided some very relaxing enjoyable quiet time. Would love to see Galison selection grow...10 out of 10.

A very fun puzzle to do
This is a great puzzle - - the image is clear, we all enjoyed doing it. We like puzzles where each person can find a chunk to concentrate on, then all come together with sections as we go. Only complaint I have about it, is that when we were done with it, it took 2 of us about 25 minutes to take it apart to put it back in the box - - the pieces fit so tightly together, that you can't fold it or break it up by folding and tugging a bit. Each individual piece had to be taken apart, and as we did, we were a bit worried about accidentally tearing off a piece of each piece. We have never had a puzzle like that before. Maybe it will loosen up over time as we use it? If you like to put puzzles back in the box "not already half done" - then you will need to invest some serious time to take it all apart when you're done.

I'm just working on this puzzle now. The quality is good and the puzzle is very challenging. But fun.

High quality jigsaw
This is such a high quality puzzle. The image is clear and beautifully adorned with metallic/golden features which really brighten it up. The puzzle itself snaps easily into place and each piece is sturdy and well constructed.
