Review: 終わってほしくない、B面の奇跡。ポール来日公演を夢見た17歳の原点 - 洋楽のアルバムを初めて購入したのは、高校3年生だった1987年の春。中古レコードで手に入れた『Abbey Road』と『Let It Be』が、私のビートルズ体験の原点です。（その後、CDや新品のレコードでも買い直すほど、長い付き合いになりました。） 当初は、あの象徴的なジャケットの格好良さに惹かれたものの、内容としてはヒット曲満載の『Let It Be』の方を好んで聴いていました。しかし、後に全作品を時系列で追い、彼らの音楽的変遷を辿った末にもう一度『Abbey Road』に向き合った時、その圧倒的な完成度に改めて打ちのめされたのです。 収録曲では「Come Together」や「Something」が有名ですが、個人的には「Oh! Darling」の熱量や「Here Comes The Sun」の光溢れるメロディに強く惹かれます。 ジョン・レノンの個性が光るA面も素晴らしいですが、このアルバムの真の真価は、やはりB面のメドレーにあります。ポール・マッカートニー主体の、まさに「ロック・シンフォニー」と呼ぶべきあの連続体。数え切れないほど聴き返しているのに、常に「早く次を聴きたい」という高揚感と「まだ終わってほしくない」という寂しさが同時に押し寄せます。 このB面だけでポールのベスト盤と言っても過言ではないほどの密度。このメドレーを生で体験したくて、1990年のポール初来日公演に足を運んだのは、今でも大切な思い出です。 正直なところ、歴史的名盤とされる『Sgt.
