Decent SNAIL or PLANT Nano Aquarium
I bought this knowing full well that it is cheap plastic, is small, and is the last generation with a newer supposedly better model available (for $89.99! Seriously??). I decided it would make a good nano tank for some local freshwater plants and bits of wood for nice decoration. I'm starting my hobby on the cheap and was pretty sure this would suit my purpose. It has. In order to add a live plant, I needed sand, but this tank isn't designed to work with sand, so I added a lovely Quaffer Double Bubble shot glass. It classes this thing up a bit, in my opinion. I may add a small freshwater snail to this, but never a fish. It really isn't suitable for fish. I know a lot of people don't realize this, but anything less than five gallons is not suitable for a fish - even betta. Shame on companies for continuing to make and sell these tiny little things as tanks for fish. Some things you should know:-Mine has a wobble and does not sit squarely on the table.-There are areas of rough plastic on the bottom edges and bottom center. You might not want to put this on furniture you care about.-I actually like the rocks it came with; they are nice and natural, but that plastic plant is not the prettiest thing. It makes the tank look cheaper, in my opinion. I am giving it to my kid for his "sea monkies" and marimo tank.-The position of the tube does not leave a lot of room to work with if you are adding decoration, though it is angled at the bottom so that it does not come up smack in the middle of the tank. My initial plan included a longer piece of wood that would have fit well in the tank had the tube been a little closer to the wall.-Keep in mind that your maximum water level is only to the tube elbow and not to the top of the tank.-The assembly instructions are really terrible. I used the picture on the box to piece it all together.TL;DR - As a betta tank, this is utter crap. As an inexpensive snail or plant nano tank, it's decent.

These are great for the desktops in our office.
I bought this for a desktop tank for my office desk. It's quite warm in the office so it works great for the betta. He seems to love it and it's easy to clean. The partial water changes are easy to do. It does get rid of some of the waste but I would do a full water change every week to get rid of any ammonia build up and keep your betta healthy. I didn't use the plant or all the rocks that came with it and bought some rounded ones from Petco and mixed those in along with a betta hammock. We have two of these in our office and both tanks are doing good.Update 7/30/15: I thought I would update my review since I have been using this for a couple months. I am still loving this tank and the ease of cleaning. I only keep one betta in the tank and I do partial water changes twice a week with a full water change every Monday. When I do the partial water changes, I pour the water in fairly quickly and the debris comes out the tube. It doesn't mix in with the rest of the water in the tank like the others have commented. I think maybe they are using different kinds of rocks. I wouldn't use regular gravel as I don't think the debris will fall through the screen or have the ability to get out of the tank when you pour the water through. Make sure you get the bigger rounded rocks that you can buy at the pet store or some type of aquarium safe river rock. Some are supplied with the tank but it's not enough. I have bought a chemical test kit to test the water and the PH is always good, the nitrites and nitrates can very but much better with partial water changes and the same with ammonia. I haven't had any dangerous levels in any of the tests but I monitored daily to check for a while to find out what is the best times to do partial and full water changes. So far, both office tanks are doing awesome. I am thinking of buying another one for my elderly mom. It will be so much easier for her to clean. With the full water changes, it still only takes me about 5 minutes to clean. I do keep conditioned water handy at all times though. She loves the betta fish but her tanks were always hard for her to clean. I bought the Marina C10 compact heater for my tank that keeps the water at a constant 78 degrees. I would highly recommend that for the tank too. It is a perfect size for the tank.

Good for a beginner
These are nice little Betta aquariums for beginning enthusiasts or kids because they are relatively low maintenance. It is big enough to give a fish a little space to roam, and the 'siphon' cleaning does work to some extent. All of the excess food and waste ultimately falls to the bottom, and when you add water that has set or been treated to remove chlorine, etc. via drops, then the siphon, which is connected to the bottom, is suppose to vacuum the bad stuff from under the rocks which sit on a plastic grate. As I say, the concept is beautiful, however, when you pour in water you need to do so very slowly as not to stir up the sediments in the bottom every time. We sometimes pour over a spoon to minimize the 'stir.' That said, a lot of gunk still gets stuck in the rocks, so about every other week, we purposely hit our two aquariums with a more forceful pour to try and dislodge some of the food and fish waste from the rocks and hopefully into the little siphon space below. We start with one glass to stir it all up, and then let that settle for an hour at least, and the a subsequent glass can allow the siphon to be more effective. Lastly, the light is a battery-powered piece and if you like the aquarium then you will sooner or later seek a plug in LED (that will cost as much as this inexpensive tank) to attach to the top of the tank. Overall, we like these tanks and the Bettas in each seem to be thriving.
