The sleeve it goes in is not very tough. It's made of very thin plastic. Be careful putting the tool back into the sleeve. The metal seems very durable. I've dropped it a few times and although it scratches easily, there were no bends or chips. Like I said my only complaint if you want to call it a complaint is the sleeve. Over all the tool works like it should.

I use this MIKKI stainless steel Wire Gauge with my jewelry making hobby to match bead diameter to correct wire gauge. I love that it came with a protective pouch.

The plain truth is that the gauge is not labeled for its intended use. Starrett lists 4 different gauges that look alike except for the labelling. Do not assume that this gauge is for the American Wire Gauge System. I checked against known wires and it did not work. It also did not work against some fractional drill bits in my set. Sales of these gauges should be suspended until it is known what they were designed for. They might look good in a wind chime.

Does what it’s supposed to. Met my needs at a very reasonable price. Definitely not an old-time Stanley unit but meets the needs.
