Al Parker: Illustrator, Innovator Hardcover – February 17, 2015

Labyrinth bookstore is one of, if not the best online bookstore I’ve come across. Every purchase I’ve made with them has been an exceptional experience, now onto the book. If you want to guarantee quality and efficient travel, this store is a must.The Book is a phenomenal collection of illustrations that undoubtedly showcase why Al Parker was one of the best at what he did. Excellent reproductions and interesting excerpts make this a must-buy for fans of illustration from this era. I rarely write reviews, but this product most certainly deserves every bit of praise I can provide.

This is really superb art book about a really superb artist. The bulk of the book consists of large well-reproduced color pictures with captions, so it's a really deep collection of Parker's art. It's broken up into chapters focusing on the different magazines he provided art for, as well as other subjects and genres, such as advertising art and children's books. Also included are an interview with Parker and a reminiscence by his niece about his life and work.If you're a fan of Al Parker, or just a fan of classic illustration (like myself) this is a great book to own.

While Rockwell might represent the apogee of skill in draftsmanship and sheer ability with paint in American illustration during the magazine era, Parker was clearly the more commercial and innovative of the two. The illustrations in this book are not totally comprehensive but they do reveal Parker's diversity and tell a compelling story of an art that has largely been sidelined by the growth of the digital medium in visual story telling. A beautiful book, well produced and thoroughly engaging for anyone interested in the art of illustration.
