Green Team! (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) (Step into Reading)

Recommended (i.e., Better Than "Saved by the Shell!")
This 48-page 9"x6" book is "Step 4" in the "Step into Reading" series, meaning that it is intended for children in grades 2-3. It has the same basic storyline as the 16-page 8"x8" book "Saved by the Shell!" . The Turtles come to the surface for the first time, and they battle the Kraang who have kidnapped a girl's scientist father. However, "Green" is better than "Saved" in several major ways.First and foremost, "Green" has more illustrations and more text than "Saved." For example, "Green" has 8 illustrated pages about the TMNTs' origins and 15 years underground, while "Saved" has one un-illustrated sentence. In "Green," it is clear how the TMNTs found a pizza; in "Saved," we are left to wonder if they were rummaging through garbage, if they stole it, or whatever. "Green" has a character "Snake" (who mutates into "Snakeweed") that "Saved" lacks.Second, if you want your child to read the story her/himself, the font size is larger ("Green" is about 22 point, "Saved" is about 14 point).Third, "Green" is perfect-bound (i.e., glued) as opposed to staple-bound "Saved." Its expected lifetime is thus longer. Finally, it is less violent in one passage in the middle which goes "Michelangelo chased him into an alley and finally won the fight." The corresponding passage in "Saved" is "One bad guy was left behind. Michelangelo hit him with his nunchucks."The only ways in which "Saved" is better than "Green" are minor: (a) the important parts of the illustrations are about 50% larger (e.g., the picture on the last page of "Saved" is about 340 sq cm excluding the part above the arch, as opposed to 224 sq cm in "Green"); and (b) it has 32 stickers of the TMNTs in different poses. Buy this book, not "Saved by the Shell!"

Love ninja turtles
My 4 year old loves ninja turtles and we love to read to him every night. So when we saw this book, we knew we had to get it and that it would be read a lot. The only issue we ran into was the book was ripped about a week into getting it. We still read it, but it is inconvenient trying to keep track of the loose pages

good length book
got this and a chapter book for my son's 8th bday and he really liked it! The only time we have together is usually at nights when I'm able to sit down and read to him, and it was a good 10 minutes to finish the book. He likes anything to do with the turtles, so he really enjoyed this introductory version of them with some pretty cool pivtures to go along with them too.

Great book & fun to read
I bought this book by mistake and almost sent it back. I did not realize that it was level 4. But my two young grand-kids insisted that I keep it. So I did and I am glad. I read it to them at bed time and they love it! It is a colorful book and entertaining. They are also learning to read bit by bit. I recommend it.

Kindergartener likes it
My son likes this book well enough. It provides a good basic introduction to the TMNT story - explaining how and why the turtles became mutants, for example. As an adult I find it tiresome to read, the language a little stilted, and I don't feel it has much social value, but then again, I'm not a 5-year-old boy. There is a "lesson" at the end that explains how the turtles learned to work together as a team, but it's a thin one.

GREAT BOOK
I love the TNMT animation or illustrations. I can't wait to download another book. The only thing I didn't like is the double tap to enlarge the print is defective in that the background is yellow and the enlarged print is white. You are unable to view the print rendering the feature useless. Please correct this. Read this using Kindle Fire.

Great Encouragement for Reading
I purchased this for my 6 year old son who is advanced at reading for his age. We have had a lot of Biff, Chip & Kipper books as well as a few Horrid Henrys, but he was getting a bit bored of the same thing. Someone gifted him a spongebob step into reading book for christmas and he really enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised to see they had loads of different themes. This book I would say is best for about the average 7-8 year old. The words are varied, but the pages are not too long 3-4 sentences. The illustrations are just like the modern tv show. Good length for a reading session. Takes my son about 7 minutes to read it on his own. This book is the same as the origin story the same as it features in the modern show. My son enjoys it - perfect way to keep a child interested in reading.

I've already bought a few of these Step into Reading books. My 5 year old grandson loves them as he can now read a little and this book has all his favourite characters.
