This is, hands down, THE WORST product I have ever experienced.
Where do I begin? The whale sounds are horrific, the crickets sound very electronically manufactured, the lake sound does, somewhat, as well, the loons sound natural but it's not something one could sleep to. The only nature sound that is tolerable for sleeping is the rain. The Hospital blanket sound is best, but its volume does not go nearly loud enough so I can't use it. The other blanket sounds are too tinny. My old white noise machine has a much more relaxing, deeper sound.Well I could probably get used to the new, tinny, sound. But how to control the device? The Android app will not run at all on my phone, once setup has completed. It does not produce anything but a solid white screen followed by a crash. Every time. Rebooting doesn't help. I can use the web site on my phone, that's very cumbersome. The entire purpose of my purchase was easier access to white noise, so a cumbersome UI is not what I am paying $150 for.The main goal was to use it with Alexa. Well, the Alexa skill refuses to do anything other than tell me what the current settings are. The conversation keeps going like this: "Alexa, control Nightingale." "What do you want Nightingale to do?" "Turn light on." "What color?" "Red." "The current Nightingale settings are rainstorm and red. What do you want Nightingale to do?" "Turn light on." "What color?" Over, and over, and over again. I did get it to turn the sounds on ONE TIME, could not find any way to turn sound off, and was never able to get it to turn on again either. I am looking right at Nightingale's list of sentences you're supposed to say to Alexa. It doesn't help.So I linked it to Google Home instead. It works a lot better there, I was able to make it turn sound on and off at will, and change sounds. But each time I told it to turn the light off, it told me the light was off, but the light never actually did go off. Well being somewhat able to control it with Google rather than Alexa didn't really come close to solving the problems, because the speakers in this thing still produce such really lousy sound. And I'd have to buy another Google Home for the bedroom in order to have regular usage with this. The Nightingale web site says you can also control the device using the button on the side. It describes in depth all the different things you can do via short press, double press, or long press of that button. The problem is: There is no button on the device.Another thing I bought it for was so that I would have white noise in my hotel room during a trip next month, since the sales literature showed it being useful for travel. Well the Getting Started card says if you're going to use it for travel, you have to set it up via Bluetooth instead of WiFi, but I could not find any instructions for that.

You only need ONE!
This is sold in single and two-unit packages. Note that the units in the double-unit package CANNOT be used independently of each other. We first bought a double-pack thinking we could use one in one house and the second in the bedroom of our vacation house. It doesn't work that way. I have no idea why you would need two of these in one room. One is more than sufficient. We have it set on a nice soft "white noise" static kind of sound. It comes on at 10pm and goes off at 6AM. Works wonderfully. Highly recommend.

They work. I would recommend for anyone who has trouble sleeping due to random sounds.
I was skeptical when I bought this - as I've tried white noise machines and sleep sound machines before. In fact, I use my Google Home for "ocean sounds" when I go to bed. I bought these because I was hopeful they could do what sounds machines could't - actually "mask" noise in other rooms. I've tried several of the settings and determined at the start, the environmental sounds weren't much different than other machines. Where Nightingale shines is the "sound blankets." After trying several different blankets, I opted for the "Adult Bedroom - neutral" option. The first couple of night I tried different levels of sound from 3 - 7. I found that 5 does a good job of masking conversations in the other rooms (tv, music, etc) and general conversations - occasional I've increased the volume if there's lots of noise in the other room. After a couple of nights, I wasn't "conscious" of the sound blanket - but I slept better. I still use Google Home for ocean sounds - only because they help me relax. Note: The app isn't the slickest one I've seen - but it's not a big deal. Once I set it up, I've only changed the volume or tested some other sounds. It does what it's supposed to. The Nightingale is definitely doing the work of masking outside sounds. I would recommend these for anyone who has trouble sleeping due to random sounds.

Perfect sleep—I love this thing!
I love this thing. I had no idea what to expect, but I have never slept better without some sort of medication. I prefer the “Sleep Blanket” mode to the fake sounding “soothing sounds” mode. The sound is unlike a typical white noise generator, and more like the sound of a refrigerator. I find I now sleep much better and awake much more rested than ever before. BTW: I use one unit positioned about five-feet from my bed, in a large bedroom. Two sleepers may need two devices—don’t know.

Out of business!
You can no longer get tech support on this device. And you’ll need it. If you ever unplug it you can’t get it to sync back up again with the app. You can try to reset but it doesn’t work. The app no longer is maintained and when I ran an update on my phone in 2019 the app was not compatible. You need the app to affect when the sound machine turns on and off. Disappointing, it was a promising product had support been maintained.

This device can also be used during the day for holistic healing and wellbeing.
This product has truly been a game changer for me in my profession. I am a Child and family therapist at a trauma clinic. Before using this device new clients would come in and hear loud noises outside of my office in the building and such day today sounds as gardeners or people heating their lunch in the break room and occasionally bathroom doors slamming would often cause them to be triggered into Trumatic distress . Now I can turn on my nightingale units which provides sound masking while simultaneously allows for soothing while they are working through current and past difficult events. I look forward to additional sounds that will assist my clients and their healing. I have suggested possibly a heartbeat for working with children who have attachment disorder just to be playing in the background during therapy to calm the heart rate and body. I believe this is a device with true potential for use in aiding sleep but also wholistic wellness even during the day.
