A bit too spiritual for my tastes
I feel it’s important to note that this book was originally written in the 70s, then updated in the 80s. It is of its time, and things have moved along since then.Based on the articles on the Tisserand Institute website, I expected this book to be a scientific read but it’s in fact very spiritual, referencing yin/yang, auras and vibrations throughout. As someone interested in scientific fact, I found this off-putting.I was intrigued by a couple of so-called scientific discoveries. For example, how Kirlian photography allegedly captured images of the auras of plants - but if you Google this you’ll see it was not the case at all. Even around the time of the “discovery” this theory was discounted.I did enjoy that Tisserand delved into the history of essential oil use, however (in this book at least) he’s a bit prone to making assumptions - he says the Ancient Egyptians “must” have done X/Y/Z, in the absence of any research. He frequently quotes people, but more often than not does not explain who they are or why their opinion is relevant. In general I found this book confused between whether it was aimed at someone who didn’t have much knowledge of essential oils and someone who has a lot of prior knowledge of the people he quotes or the medical terms he uses.Lastly, there are a number of typos.Truthfully, I was very excited about the book, but I actually found myself trudging through parts of it. I do very much want Tisserand’s Essential Oil Safety book which I believe is very scientific.

Difficult to understand
I find the text old fashioned and hard to read. Some language used is hard to understand.
