Product Description Lost Highway releases the Deadwood Soundtrack, compiling songs appearing at the close of each episode. The soundtrack features an eclectic mix of artist ranging from Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee to Lyle Lovett to June Carter Cash. .com The West of veteran TV writer/Deadwoodcreator David Milch is as grim as it is gritty, sprinkled with salty dialogue and punctuated by sudden brutality and raw sexuality. The original soundtrack cues by composer David Schwartz (represented here by his evocative show theme), Michael Brook and Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek play off that vision with often stark rootsiness. But it's the series' rich slate of songs -- choices whose inventiveness often rivals that of The Sopranos -- that consistently reinforce its all-too-human drama, if not the crusty veneer. This collection gathers the best songs from the series' first season, coloring the milieu with evocative hillbilly romps like Michael Hurley's "Hog of the Forsaken" and the a capella grace of Margaret's Native American "Creek Lullaby." But the collection's musical eclecticism stretches far beyond mere genre concerns, variously encompassing the nascent jazz of Jelly Roll Morton (a rollicking "Stars and Stripes Forever"), Delta blues of Bukka White and Mississippi John Hurt and even Gustavo Santaolalla's hypnotic Brazilian fretwork. But the collection's country and folk-tinged performances are its most resonant, whether invoking earthy traditions (the gospel fervor of the late June Carter Cash's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee's more heretical "God and Man") or more contemporary stylings like Lyle Lovett's "Old Friend" and the gentle "Twisted Little Man" by Michael J. Sheehy. --Jerry McCulley P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); Review The album's mix of bucolic and aggressive fully evokes the Wild West. A scene-setting score with country and blues tunes. -- Newark Star Ledger, 2/6/05The songs memorably capture the uneasy hope of some of the critically acclaimed shows central characters. -- Entertainment Weekly, B ** 2/18You can practically feel the dust under your cowboy boots on this evocative soundtrack to the HBO western drama. -- People Magazine - 3 Stars See more

I Love the Show & Always Really Enjoyed Its Soundtrack, But ...
I Love the Show & Always Really Enjoyed Its Soundtrack, But ...This is Only for the First Season & They Have Not Yet Ever Released Any Soundtrack forSeason 2 or 3 & So It's Just Incomplete, as Some of the Songs on Here are Really Great ...I Was Really Looking for & Like Some of the Songs Off Season 2 & 3 and I Feel Its Just INCOMPLETE.As I Really Wish That the Manufacturer's & Corporations In Charge of This Would Really Put Out & Releasethe Soundtracks for Season 2 & 3 as Well. Thank You.But for This First Season Release, It is Very Nice, but I Have to Say that the Colorful Language is Rather Cute on the Show & Makes for a lot of the Humor, Having It's Clips Mixed In Between Songs is Rather Nostalgic of the Show & Brings Those Moments Up to Mind which is Great, but it Just Doesn't Make for Easy Listening Musically or for Playing Around Your Kids at All, lol, but they do Offer a Clean Version of This Exact Same Disc as Well, Only It's a lil' Harder to Find & Generally Costs a lot More Most Unfortunately ... But What Can You Do ???I Just Hope Someday They'll Please Release a Soundtrack of Seasons 2 & 3 as Well, Thank You.

GREAT REMINDER OF MY FAVORITE SHOW
I loved this DVD with the music from the Deadwood HBO series. It would have been nice if the music selections were a little bit longer, but I was just so happy to have them at all, (as they are mostly so obscure) that I am not complaining. I loved listening to them at the end of each episode during Season One when I was originally watching the DVDs. Having them in this manner is just an extra nice pleasure.Sometimes I listen to the little snippets of dialogue from the show; other times I am just in the mood for the music. I have taken steps to ensure I can be happy either way.I sometimes play this CD in my car just over and over; the selections are quite soothing to listen to and - as I said, it is a great reminder of my favorite show ever!I bought a copy for a friend and while she wasn't certain at first that she would enjoy it; she quickly became as addicted to it as I am and finds she plays it over and over as well. Of course, the TV show was also her favorite. If you loved Deadwood, buy yourself this little guilty pleasure; I predict you too will come to love it.

Fine Americana
This CD really grew on me. When I listened to it for the first couple of times, I liked it okay, enjoyed the snippets of dialogue, but wasn't overwhelmed. Then a couple days later I punched it up on my iPod to listen to on my morning commute. And I can't seem to stop listening to it. The songs flow so gorgeously into one another that they create a great aural picture of America.I guess it's too much to hope for a second and third volume of this CD, to incorporate the songs from the other two seasons. But if there were, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Excellent, but not for the narrow minded
This is a review from Denmark, where we can pick up Deadwood from Swedish TV. Being English and a lover of westerns, it's great to see a series that is not about Housewives, CSIs, and Bones. Anyway this is a great album with some very long, some short, cowboy, country and western music plus the blues. In between we have dialogue from the series and it is Deadwood language. My living room is blue with every other word and I love it. This is one album my Mother would not want in her apartment. Nearly all the cast does some singing plus some authentic C/W artists. This is a thoroughly entertining album just like the Deadwood series.

Great Eclectic Mix from the TV Show
This album is an interesting mix. Only a few tracks are instrumental score from the show, though of course the excellent opening credits theme is in there. The majority consists of songs that play over the closing credits, some of which are modern, but others that are traditional in an Old West type theme. There are some tracks where the recording quality is not perfect, but these are all authentic old recordings. Peppered throughout the album is a selection of choice bits of dialogue from the show, which ties the varied music together nicely. Finally, what Deadwood album could be complete without Calamity Jane and Charlie Utter singing Row Row Row Your Boat together? It's the perfect way to get in the mood for the upcoming movie!

Only for hoople heads
I absolutely adored Deadwood and this disc is a fine reflection of it with a mix of music and spoken word. I wish the producers would bring out a comprehensive disc with all seasons represented. As it is, it's great to be reminded of the fabulous script and the witty and clever way the writers have attempted to 'recreate' Midwestern 19th century argot.

Good selection.
Only if you don't mind swearing but if you don't like swearing I guess you wouldn't like the series either. Good selection of music that epitomises the show.

Perfect sound quality.
Despite what an other reviewer has claimed, this disc is very well produced and has excellent audio quality. The tracks are superb and the interspersed dialogue is minimal, pertinent and welcome.

Fantastic!
A brilliant soundtrack for an equally brilliant show. The music highlights the drama well and with the spoken pieces in between tracks, reminds us of some of the mesmerising and funny dialogue from the show.
