Bergman and Boyer Together Again!
After appearing together in Gaslight(1944)Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer reunite in Arch of Triumph and what a reunion it is . Set in pre World War 2 Paris Boyer plays Ravic a doctor who is in search of the Nazi who tortured his girlfriend to death and Bergman plays Joan a woman who is on the run after killing a man . Their paths cross and Ravic commits himself to helping her. Romance blooms between them but they are soon separated. I won't go any further because the ending is a must see.Brilliant performances by both Bergman and Boyer the only one criticism I have is I wish the film school at UCLA had cleaned up the quality a little bit(the film is part of their archives)but the quality is still very much acceptable as it is so don't let that deter you from adding this Excellent film to your collection.

GREAT B&W FILMOGRAPHY!
Plot is pretty good and the acting better still, but it's filmography of pre-war Paris is outstanding. Bergman is luminously beautiful and Boyer suitably cynical, but Laughton is miscast as a Nazi. Despite it's modest flaws I've seen it three times.

In Glorious Black And White!
This is a dark and moody film noir from Hollywood's Golden Age of Cinema, and even though it wasn't the big hit the studio expected, it has gained cult status from almost the moment it was released. And lot of it has to do with the great acting and chemistry between Ingrid Bergman, who's been one of my favorite actresses since I was a kid and Charles Boyer. Flawless performance by Ms. Bergman and Mr. Boyer, and kudos also to Charles Laughton and Louis Calhern who almost steals the show from Miss Bergman and Mr. Boyer.I remember buying the VHS tape way back in 1983 and even though the quality was awful it was better than nothing, however, the transfer to DVD has considerably improved the picture as well as the sound quality of the film. All in all, and wonderful, dark, moody, cinematic experience.

Have you ever been I Paris?
As you understand, I red this book for many years ago. It was a different story. My best impresson is actor, who plays main hero. Sometimes I was surprised: driver was in a wrong side? It's Paris, not London. It was pleasure for me to see this movie. I like white and black movies.

Beautiful Bergman and Brooding Boyer
Bergman is beautiful, and Charles Boyer's performance crackles with intensity and brooding resignation. I saw this film years back, so I was happy to find it on Prime. It's not often that a Bergman role manages to irk me, but this one does. That doesn't stop me from enjoying the performances and the story.

Olive's re-release not remastered
In comparing Olive Films' 2014 transfer of Lewis Milestone's 'Arch of Triumph' (Paramount, 1948) with Lionsgate's 2008 offering, I'm disappointed to report that no real improvement is evident other than a cleaner audio track (both feature AOT's fully restored 133-minute running time). The picture is still overly dark and dusted with specks and scratches. It's a better movie than many give it credit for but those hoping to see it released in remastered form with commentary or other supplements will have to continue to wait. Film earns 3 1/2 stars, presentation 3ish.

A Hidden Gem
Given that we like the genre, this is a gem we never watched (or heard of) before. It has all the pre-WWII apprehension and some romantic tones, all in a vintage setting with really great actors. What more could we want?!

Bergman is beautiful; film is not
The main reason I bought Arch of Triumph was because of Ingrid Bergman. She is one of my favorite actresses. I had never seen this film before, and I have to admit I found it slow and somewhat dull. The storyline is set in occupied Paris, and one would think that this would put some excitement and suspense into the film, but it just meanders along. The characters that Charles Boyer and Bergman portray are somewhat annoying, and despite the talents of the two stars, it's hard to feel much sympathy for their plight. Bergman looks fantastic--she may never have looked better than in this film--but it's too bad the screenplay does not match her beauty. Hard-core Ingrid Bergman fans may still be interested in picking up this DVD.

rating Arch of Triumph
Although both actors are 5 star +, calibers,I was expecting much more from this movie;I was kind of disappointed;I wish Charles Boyer was in Casablanca playing Rick;maybe that's why my expectations were too high for this movie;but I am glad I have it,its still a thrill to watch them together again.

I enjoyed it and it's always a delight to see Laughton
I knew at the time of purchase that this was not going to be a masterpiece as was the earlier Boyer / Bergman 'Gaslight'. I enjoyed it and it's always a delight to see Laughton.
