Just to make sure this ps2 compatibility ?

Do not buy this. A fat ps2 or ps2 slim is the best way to play psone and ps2 games as they have full compatibility with psone and ps2 controllers and memory cards. I would say the chances of an older model being bricked by ps3 firmware is too high. I lost two 40gb fat ps3 machines due to this issue.

When playing ps2 games on the backwards compatible ps3 do you need to use the ps2 controller or can you use the ps3 controller?

You don't need the ps2 controller. You can use the ps3 controller, but depending on how new the ps3 controller is, it may have to stay plugged to the ps3 to work.

How many wireless controller do it come with

It comes with one controller but, you'll probably wanna buy another so it can charge while you play with the other. Also being that the controllers charge doesn't last as long as a new one.
