Silva Compass Starter 1-2-3 - AW22

This is a great little compass and clear to read with good accuracy (I compared it to the compass on my phone and they phone read the same). It is made from a thick, sturdy plastic and the compass dial has a good free-moving needle displayed inside. I like that it is a compact size and easy to use. The price I paid for this was very reasonable and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small, reliable compass.

Yup, it's a compass. Points to North accurately, is small, clear and the bezel moves smoothly. Good price, good quality.

Appears to be solar as it’s working fine without batteries, planning to try in the dark just in case. Otherwise it won’t keep still when I moves around pointing in one direction. Probably best for straight hikes and not circular walks.

Good quality, easy to use accurate compass

My daughter used this on her Duke of Edinburgh adventures. It is light, the right size not too big but big enough to see. Fits in your pocket or map holder etc. Decent price. I’d recommend it.

Sick of using electronic aids for navigation, I decided to try and re live the days of my Scouting Youth, by purchasing an Old School compass. Armed with compass, map case and OS Map of Dartmoor, and primed by watching the SILVA 123 You Tube guide, I set out for Dartmoor. First mistake, the hunky Scandinavian and his foxy blonde companion faced navigating in snowy forests whereas I had several square miles of sphagnum moss quagmire, boulder strewn clitter and a minuscule cairn to navigate over. Whilst they expounded the delights of the SILVA 123 system, I was up to my knees in bog, being strangled by my map case straps and torrentially rained on. I eventually “Northed” my map and set a bearing on a small white rock about half a mile away and trudged on through the morass. After about an hour and feeling quite proud of myself, I had a feeling of deja vu. The Cairn I needed to RV at, was now about 35 degrees to my right, whereas the white rock I had sighted on, was happily munching grass to my left. At this point I decided that I needed to be back in the classroom, so reverted to my GPS App on my I phone. The little basic Silva is good value and does what it says on the tin. However being a 62 year old trying to experience Adventure Before Dementia, I don’t think my brain is receptive enough to re learn map and compass navigation. So I will carry it with my paper map, just to impress the youngsters and keep my GPS hidden in my pocket.

Useless. The compass needle on the one I received does not point to North. I have owned a larger Silva compass since I was 11 years old & wanted a smaller one for recreational walking abroad etc. I chose this Silva compass based on my experience with my old compass. I will now not buy another Silva compass. My picture shows my old compass pointing north & the new one pointing south east. I took it out of the packet in case there was something metallic in the packaging but this made no difference.

Very good quality for the price paid. Recommended for normal.usage but for mill use I doubt those folks will buy them There are better brands. One thing is this model do not have arrays of luminous on the bezel ring which can help for visibility.I do not know why they do not manufacture it with the luminous ring. It will help in some way and in some.cases especially in evening walk but not night. There is one with a small bubble inside. So no ideal if it effect the performance..the needle still point north when compared with the 6 of them which are all the same make model brand.only one had bubble. So there you are a quality product. Not too shabby. Unless you want the absolute best which is the Cammenga and you have to fork out 100 plus plus dollars. For normal trek ok. You are not gonna get lost or it will mistrack. For budget wise it is fine.

There are more elaborate and expensive models out there, but they will not do any more than this one does.

Genau das, was ich gesucht habe. Der Silva Kompass ist handlich und präzise, und erfüllt voll meine Erwartungen. Der drehbare Ring zur Ausrichtung auf einer Karte ist auch top. Empfehlenswert.

. . . . . ab 60 Jahren und später - brauch ich ein Kompass mit Durchmesser 1Meter . . . . . .- :-) es ist ein Standard Kompass , gut in der Handhabung , im Karten lesen und "ausnorden" bestens. kann man kaufen , gutes Teil und Hilfe , wer sich damit auskennt.
