Mythical Monsters : The Scariest Creatures from Legends, Books, and Movies

Very vivid and well done
I would say if your kiddos get the slightest big scared, this book is very detailed and the pictures are amazingly well done and graphic, so you may want to hold off just a bit longer. My 7 year old read this book for days and still enjoys getting it out to show his friends, but had I known how graphic it was I may have steered him in another direction as he does still get spooked out about some of them, more so those that could possibly live here (ie Boogy Man).

Great Book!
We purchased this for our 10 year old son. He loves mythical creatures, particularly those of the middle ages ( which are difficult to find in one book). He also loves to compare the size and strength, etc. to humans and other creatures, both mythical and true. This book has great illustrations and the perfect amount of information for inquisitive minds. I say would say young children, but beware, there are some truly frightening and lurid monsters in this book. I don't let our younger children view all of the pages and we've cautioned our 10 yr. old to resist the temptation to read some of the worst pages. Of course, curiosity has gotten the better of him a few times and he regretted reading what he had. Wish that it had removable pages that we could add in later. He dud bring it into school one day and his teachers wanted to buy their own copies. It really is that well done.

AWESOME BOOK!!!!
I saw this at a friend's house and absolutely HAD to purchase it for my 10 yr old son. It has full (2 page) pictures and "facts" on each mythical monster. My 10 yr old son has a great imagination and LOVES to write his own stories. However, all he ever writes about are zombies, vampires and "minions" b/c he doesn't really know anything about other monsters. This book gives him PLENTY of new creatures to write about in his stories! This will help his imagination SOAR!! I give it 5 stars and would recommend it to others...especially for the 10-14 age group (although its fun for ADULTS to read too!) The monsters in this book include things like "Leviathans," "Warewolves," "Centaurs" and much MUCH more! I can't WAIT to hear my sons new stories!

Great buy it while it's still around
I remember checking this book out at my old grade school and loved the illustrations and the way the book was laid out with the facts and the map of where to find each monster in the real world. I really just bought this book out of nostalgia, but it was well worth it. I do agree that some of the monsters are a bit scary for the younger readers, as the images are very vivid.

Great book!
I purchased this book for my son who was looking for book about different monsters and creatures. This was a great choice for his age (he is 8). It has a great balance of pictures and text. He and his sister have had a lot of fun looking at all the pictures and reading all of the details that make each monster unique! I can definitely see this book being read through many times!

A hit with the boys (and Mom)
We came across this book in a cafe and my 6 year old begged me to get it. Thought he was too young for it but he kept mentioning it for weeks so I got it. Well, he could not be happier with the purchase. It has really motivated him with his reading and he has very serious discussions with his 4 year old brother about which one is the scariest monster (doesn't scare the 4 year old either). The book is taken everywhere and was featured in a class presentation. It gives a brief background for each monster, interesting facts, where in the world they come from, and the images highlight their key strenghts with descriptions.Agree with another reviewer about the Chupacabra's questionable image but it is nice to have at least one Latin American monster included.

Kids can't read it enough
My 6th graders adore this book. I have four copies that get demolished every year from overuse. There are mythic animals in here that even I never learned about. The artwork can be a little questionable ("THAT'S not what chupacabra looks like"!) but overall it is a great resource of fantasy and discussion among my students that gets them excited and, more importantly, reading.

Third Party Seller’s Fault
This book is completely trashed, drawn in and everything with no warnings as to that in the third party seller’s description. I love the book but I don’t want to see crudely drawn penises in it all the time I read it.

Highly recommended, excellent book
Arrived on time in good condition, despite the packaging having a hole through which the book was visable and exposed.Bought this book for my boyfriend, who is a fan of legends and myths as he had it as a child and wanted to find it but didnt know where it was. He adores it and hails it as an excellent and detailed book with hours of enjoyment as it contains detailed paintings and diagrams as well as stories about the monsters.
