Great trekking boot.
I like these & have had a couple of pairs. Comfy straight out of the box & as waterproof as any of their counterparts in my opinion. Used them trekking to Annapurna Base Camp & they performed brilliantly. Used them with removable Katoolie spikes & the soles were plenty rigid enough. I need a half a size up from my usual size. Keep your eye out for deals.

For the money ...... Excellent!
OMG! What is with these reviewers? If your boots fail after 2-3 years and 600 miles of paddling in the sea .... BUY SOME NEW BOOTS YOU MORONS! And stop complaining and trying to get your money back ! These boots a very comfortable and light with good support. I have done several hundred miles in them. I nikwax them regularly and as yet I'm still dry. I have walked up to 25 miles in one day with no blisters whatsoever - my feet were a little warm but 'duh' I just walked 25 miles. Let's not forget these are inexpensive boots! If and when mine fail I will remember them fondly and buy some more. I bought a size bigger and if you replace the insole with 'superfeet' they're even more like slippers. If you want your boots to last 10 years I'm sorry to break this to you .... But you're gonna have to spend more money!

Not (always) waterproof
I bought these boots 6 months ago to break them in before I undertook the Coast to Coast walk. I finished it yesterday so now I am able to review them. The boots are very comfortable and a very good fit. I did not suffer from blisters and the grip was excellent.But. On the first day I wore them in wet weather my feet got soaking wet. So much so that I had to wring out my socks to continue. I've had to check out the description to see that I didn't imagine they are gore-tex lined. It seemed too good to be true at the price. It was.Great walking boots, so long as it is dry.Update January 2018. I've had these boots for over a year now so I thought I should add to my review as I have done them an injustice. The boots are generally waterproof. I was out in 6 inches of snow in December and my feet were dry. So why did I end up with wet socks before? My only explanation is it rained all that day and I was wearing full waterproofs and gaiters. I think that the water ran off off me and some of it managed to get in through the tongue. Not that this should happen. Or maybe it ran down my leggings and got beneath the gaiters and got in the top of the boot.I've revised my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. I'm walking the Dales Way and the West Highland Way this year and I have bought Berghaus leather boots to replace my old faithful Brashers which have no grip left. The Merrells are very comfortable and I use them regularly but I simply don't trust them for use on a long trek.

Merrell might make their shoes a little small, but the quality is excellent.
I've only been wearing these a short time and I have to say they are excellent. The build quality of the shoe itself is very robust, it is shaped well and snugs the foot nicely in all the right places. The soles are soft but not too spongy and the higher cut gives the ankle nice support. One thing I'll echo that some other's have said is that you should order 1 SIZE UP from your regular size. After reading other reviews I ordered a size 10 UK (whereas I'm normally size 9), and they fit perfectly. It seems Merrell make their shoes smaller than most manufacturers, but that doesn't affect their quality which is superb.

Great boot but...
I got these in August 2017 for a walking trip to Italy. Great boots good fit and very waterproof. However I only had them 6 months and the sole started to separate from the boot. Never had this on Merrell boots before. Amazon kindly agreed to take them back and give me a refund. Will try another pair as I hope this is a one off.The boots are very waterproof even when the outer is saturated. Also very cool when wearing them in hot climates. Very comfortable from day one and no need to break them in. Very good 2 season boots. When ordering be aware that the colour makes a big difference to the price.

Excellent Boots
Having owned these boots for at least 18 months now, and having used them in all sorts of terrain I can confirm they are nothing short of superb and an excellent buy.In hot, dry conditions they still allow plenty of air circulation which dramatically reduces feet over heating in the summer. In boggy conditions that I experienced in Wales they held out a lot of water very very well, especially considering how breathable they are.In muddy conditions they grip very well, never slipping or letting me down, - same goes for snowy conditions that I have used them in.They are rock solid quality as well, cleaning up well after a muddy weekend. The sole has a good level of flex in it, which means you don't get sore soles of your feet like with many other boots. The upper has plenty of flex in it also, but still retaining structure and being protective. These boots are excellent for all purpose walking/hiking, and are suitable for varying distances - excelling in all sorts of conditions.Recommended.

Tight fit
I gave it two stars because of the fit. I usually wear size 9.5 and I ordered a size 10 pair because I read that it's a small fit. Unfortunately, it came smaller than expected.

Fantastic Boot
Had these around 18 months and they are still going strong despite being used for some difficult treks. Worn straight off with no blisters or hotspots without the use of hiking socks. I never had a blister in two weeks of hiking in the Atlas mountains and have not had a more comfortable set of footwear. They are also fairly light and while I wouldnt wear them to trek snowy terrain (due to them being quite light) they are extremely quick drying whenever they get wet. Lace loops and buckles are still going strong, as are the laces, sole and indeed the rest of the boot.
