Not of use to the layman
It does what it says on the tin, identifies mould. However, all I wanted to know was if it was black mould, a very common mould found in houses. The provided booklet made no mention of black mould, just a bunch of scientific names, which meant nothing to I me. If they want to make this product useable, use layman’s term for the moulds, and show the common moulds as what they will show up like. I know it can’t give guarantees, but and indication would help.

Works!
I tested some areas around my house to see if there was mold present. To test the general air quality, you just leave it out for an hour. I did this by sitting one on my kitchen counter (came back clean!) and one on my front door steps (lots of mold in outside air!) I also tested two of my air vents by putting them upside down on the vent with the air fan blowing for 10 minutes. (You can also tape them to the inside of a ceiling vent.) These fortunately came back clean as well. One other area I tested in the corner of a rug where a leak had previously been fixed came back positive for mold too. To test a surface, you wipe a swab on the surface and then on the petri dish. The material in the dish cracks and breaks up easily, so you must be gentle. However, the test will still work even if you have some cracked pieces. You are supposed to let these sit for two days in a dark place, then seal them shut with tape, then wait two more days (still in a dark place) before you check the results. I ended up reusing the clean petri dishes for another area. I hadn't touched the surface and four days later they were as clean as when I started, so I tried some other areas. Why not 5 stars then? Because I still have no idea what kind of mold is present. While they give you a booklet with photos of mold, none of my mold looks like the photos. I even tried zooming in and asking my iPhone to identify what the photo was, but sadly the iPhone was stumped.

Very Straightforward Instructions and Interesting Results
his kit is pretty complete to test your whole house, although the first thing it says in the Step-by-Step Instructions is that you should have 2 kits, one for indoors and another to place in various locations outside of your house. The reason being, you need to see what molds there are coming in from outdoors to compare to what you may find indoors. Especially if you tend to keep certain windows open most of the day. There are 4 different test sampling methods you can perform with this kit: 1) Settling Air Quality sampling; 2) HAVC Air Sampling; 3) Visual Surface Sampling; and 4) Bulk Sample. I chose to do the Setting Air Quality setting and placed a petri dish in every room in spots that I thought might be potentially cultivating mold. The instructions are pretty clear, I’ll tell you what. You basically place the petri dishes without their lids in various locations for 1 hour. You then cover them with the lids and leave them for 48 hours. After that, you seal each petri dish by putting a layer of tape around the seam where the lid meets the dish. I used a label maker to then identify the room from which the sample sat. You must now put all these samples in a warm dark spot for another 48 hours. At this point, if there’s mold growing you can then compare it to their Mold Identification Guide that has photos of a dozen different types of molds, where they’re normally found, and what sort of health issues they can cause. At this point, if you think you have a mold problem, you can either take the sample to a professional mold removal company or send to a lab for further analysis and recommendations. So only start this testing when you know you have about 4-7 days to monitor results. I thought it was interesting that in the room where my aquarium is located, I thought for sure there would be mold, but to my surprise it was actually pretty free of anything.
