Some nice tracks, but Jeff's one-man-band leaves me a little flat
After owning this for a few months, I want to ad a slight negative, which is: with repeat listens this DOES start to sound like Jeff sitting in his studio/home banging out all the parts himself, with somewhat dull precision. I really do think he would produce better art with an actual band, particularly in the drum department--Lynne's drumming is adequate but flat-footed, and this has started to grate on me more with each listen. In addition, he uses precisely the same sonic setup for every track--the drums could have been all knocked out in one hour-long session, for all the difference it might have made.I love Lynne's work and applaud his recent burst of activity, but I really do wish he would put together an ensemble--even of studio musicians--to give his next outing a livelier feel. This CD, and his "best of ELO" CD, both sound sadly sterile compared to albums like "New World Record" and "Out of the Blue."Otherwise, I stand by my original review, which read as follows:I'm a big fan and this is a very pleasant romp through Lynne's favorite radio memories. For me the opening track, "She," makes owning the disc worthy all by itself. His cover of "Beyond the Sea" features an all-guitar instrumental break that took its every lesson from Brian May on such Queen tracks as "Good Company" from Night at the Opera. If you love Jeff Lynne you will enjoy this disc.

He should've called it "Slow Burn" instead...
I was initially disappointed in this album. I thought it was too short, had too many covers and was too somber (for a Jeff Lynne production, anyway). I only listened to it on occasion or if a song wound up in the “random” selection. Then one day I found myself playing it on “repeat” and listening to it three or four times in a row. This really is an album that takes time to appreciate (hence “Slow Burn”). There are some immediately likeable songs to be sure, but after only one or two listens you may think “meh” to the whole collection. However, give it a little time and the songs will stick in your head like Jeff Lynne songs often do.Be forewarned though: Don’t listen to “Under the Sea” unless you plan on having it bang around your head for the rest of the day!

waiting to hear from vendor for a 5
I love this album. I collect vinyl, the album corner was a tad smushed in, making it not brand new excellent quality . I just wanted to exchange it for a 5 star rating. Never got a response.

Long Wave, Jeff Lynne
ELO, WILBURY's mix applied to musical standards. Mr Lynne is a brilliant producer as well as recording artist, sadly we don't get as much product from him nowadays. I don't blame him, he could retire from everything, but I feel we fans could have so much more from him.I am pleased to see he is to release a couple of albums in April, and will be online looking for them.Long Wave is a varied collection that covers differing styles, but Mr Lynne does an excellent job with them all. i would recommend this collection to everybody, to let them hear some great old standards again, and also to showcase Jeff Lynne's skills.Hope he does more like this.

An Album from the Heart
This was a nice touching album from Jeff Lynne of ELO fame. In this album he takes a shot at playing his favorite songs growing up that had inspired him and his music. A lot of the songs I had never heard of but I found them beautiful. In the albums booklet Jeff Lynne talks about the songs he picked and why he picked them. The worst part of this album is that it is kind of short but it is so enjoyable that it doesn't bother me to just listen to it replay. I suggest this album for Jeff Lynne fans or fans of older style music. If you are a casual fan I suggest you listen to the samples to see if it is something you like.

A Hard,... But easy call
From the first ELO album to Long Wave Jeff Lynne has always been a touchstone for me. I lost the Beatles, and through the years he seemed, to me, to understand what made them speak to me. Beautiful melodies, great production, and sometimes lyrics I could make sense out of.. Long Wave, for me is very personal. It brought to mind a song that I loved so many years ago, and presented it in a mode that was very accessable to me..so much so I'm going to sing it at my wedding. So, should you buy this album? If you know the songs, yes....if you don't but have bonded with Mr Lynne through ELO, and all the other projects he had been envolved with..perhaps....Armchair ,..is coming for re-release, this you MUST have.

Lynne updates oldies
This CD might not be for younger people, those who don't know the songs "Smile," "If I Loved You," "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)," "Beyond the Sea" and "Running Scared." But Lynne adds a little ELo to most of the songs, making this a bridge album between that band and his solo works. The highlights are "She," "Mercy, Mercy" and "Let it Rock," but some smaller pleasures exist in "So Sad" and "At Last." If you liked his "Armchair Theater" album from 1990, you'll love this one.

masterful
jeff goes back to his roots and records his own versions of his childhood favorites..this album is beautiful, as is all of his work whether its with the idle race, the move, electric light orchestra, the traveling wilburys, solo albums, or as a producer of countless well respected artists such as tom petty, george harrison, the list is endless. multi-instrumental and studio genius. this is just his latest project, just another day at the office- classy pop greatness.

Nice rendition of timeless classics
Anything Jeff Lynn does is fine by me and he does not disappoint on this occasion. Jeff's covers of these great classics is a tribute to the guys talent and you will be a fool not to add this to your album collection.Jeff has just re-released a remasters addition of the album The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra and he is about to do the same with the previous albums of Zoom and Armchair Theatre. However, there is talk of a new album of unheard original tracks in the pipeline from Jeff which I am greatly looking forward to.My favourite tracks on this album are She and At Last, and if you are a fan of old time remastered copies, then buy the Armchair Theatre album were once again, Jeff covers some old time classics in he's formidable way. I recommend that you buy this album

SUPERB !
Jeff Lynn's tribute to the music he grew up with and all sympathetically produced, avoiding copying the originals except "So Sad" and "Running Scared". On these tracks he has deliberately set out to reproduce the original and what a super job he makes. On the other tracks he brings his own treatment and there is not one that fails. I was concerned about "Beyond the Sea" (before I heard his version) as there is no other than Bobby Darin's but I should not have worried as his treatment of both complimentary and distinctive.I see some negative reviews and whilst I appreciate everyone has their own views I feel that anyone buying this for or as a new ELO album has missed the point. It is a tribute to and a celebration of music of the time and I loved it.A great job and display of true talent.

A nice contrast to trademark ELO output!
Eleven tracks, and generally far more listenable than the originals on which they are based - faithfully done but very much in the Jeff Lynne idiom and IMHO very much the better for that. Weighing in at just under 28 minutes, this is definitely all about the quality rather than the quantity of material on offer. Lots of good "earworm" stuff here. Wonder if JL will ever get round to doing a Long Wave 2 - I hope so!!

Trip down memory lane.
For me this is a nostalgic trip down memory lane.Turned up really loud on my car stereo I sing along and I love it.I particularly like SHE and Bewitched, bothered and bewildered.Beautifully done by the really talented Jeff Lynne. My only criticism would be that some of the songs should have had parts repeated to make the recordings longer.I was just starting to enjoy them when they finished.Altogether a very good recording.

TAKE A BOW JEFF, THIS ALBUM IS PURE MAGIC.
I KNOW ITS BEEN A LONG WAIT, BUT BY GOD IT WAS WORTH IT, THIS LATEST ALBUM CONTAINS A LOT OF MY DIM DISTANT PAST, JEFF GIVES HIS ALL TO THE TREATMENT OF THESE OLD CLASSICS, EVERY TRACK IS SUBLIME, WHEN I FIRST PUT IT ON I WAS CHOKED, HALFWAY THROUGH THE SECOND TRACK "IF I LOVED YOU" , MY WIFE ASKED WHO IT WAS SINGING, I COULD`NT SPEAK, I WAS JUST RECOVERING FROM "SHE", AND THEN HE PROCEEDS TO WORKS HIS MAGIC ON EVERY TRACK, HE IS STANDOUT ON HIS HIS OLD MATE ROY ORBISON`S "RUNNING SCARED" , THE MAN JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER, AND ARE`NT WE THE LUCKY ONES, LONG MAY HE KEEP CREATING MAGIC.
