Fantastic Hiking Boots.
Let me start out by saying that while I am not much of an avid hiker, these are by far my favorite shoes. I wear them multiple days a week just because they're so comfortable and I like the look. They do tend to run small. I normally wear a men's size 8.5 and when I received those and tried them on, I immediately sent them back and ordered a half-size larger. Those size 9s fit perfectly. These shoes/boots are durable. I've had them now for about 4 years and they STILL look great. The soles have good traction and they do repel water pretty well. I haven't hiked down the middle of a stream, but I have stepped through them and my feet stayed dry. For rainy days, they work great. Arch support is good as well. I have high arches and often have to swap out the insole to something with more support. Not so with these. Overall, these are great boots. When you consider the price for what you get, they are fantastic. I really have no idea why I waited so long to review them, but here you go. I own the mid-height and am just now purchasing another pair in the low-height. Highly recommended.

Comfort Far Above My Expectations!
After 3 full days of wearing boots, working on concrete and lots of ladder work, the comfort of these boots are way above my expectations! Must write this review and share. First I did not buy for hiking use however for a hiker a definite must. I have bad feet and after several orthopedic type shoes and custom inserts, I could not stay on my feet longer than 3-4 and that was stretching it. My feet would swell and sometimes I couldn't even wear a shoe the following day. After seeing a good foot doctor, she recommended I purchase a wide hiking shoe (I normally where medium) which would give my toes more spread room. Also, she suggested the hiking boots have less bend (flexibility) in toe area which would not allow toes to bend much which was causing alot of my issues. And of course a good arch support. After a couple more months of pain I finally starting researching for "best hiking boots" and Merrell MOAB which I pulled the plug and ordered. When boots arrived I could not believe the total weight, both boots and packaging weighed less than one of my other boots! Due to weather in St Louis area I ordered the water proof type to keep feet warmer. Anyway, these are the first boots (including orthopedic shoes) I have been able to keep on my feet over 4 hours. Had em on almost 10 hours today and even walked my dog (Labrador) for a mile! Also, as I read in many other reviews, did not have to break in. 3 full days now and going strong. Will update as time goes on. As for now, highly recommend! UPDATE: Wrapping up my second week wearing my Merrell boots. Boots are high above expectations! My neighbor noticed me moving around much better and longer. What a difference a good fitting, comfortable boot makes! Neighbor went to local store and bought a pair the next morning! Also, we had snow earlier this week, feet stayed dry!

Really comfortable shoe
I have tried other hiking boots/shoes and I am always happy with Merrell. I buy others for price benefits, but you get what you pay for. These shoes feel great immediately; as if they were specifically made for me. I have a wider foot and flat footed as well. While the support with the shoe would most likely be sufficient for my flat feet, I still buy my own insoles. Habit. Foot comfort is key regardless the task. I walk 2-4 miles a day with my dog. I can wear boots out quickly. These Merrells hold their own, though. I can almost get a year out of a pair. The shoe itself is still in great shape usually, but the soles wear according to my gait and that is the reason for getting a new pair. I like the above ankle shoe/boot. It offers enough ankle support still without being a boot. It has great traction. Difficult to walk in new ones due to such great traction and width of sole, but that’s probably because I get used to walking in my worn out ones.🤷🏻♂️ Warm enough for Michigan Winters. The waterproofing is great, too. Spring in Michigan can be extremely wet. 2-4 miles walking in wet grass or puddles, it is nice to have dry feet at the end (well, during as well). I think I may be finished shopping around. I’ve had Raichle, Red Wing, Keen, Field and Stream, and Salomon to name a few. All of those were good as well, but either discontinued a style or changed manufacturing which changed the product. I’ll just stick with these Merrells as long as they maintain their quality. You may benefit from doing what I’m doing and just sticking with what works (for me), which is Merrell.

Comfortable and snug but needs better slip resistance.
These fit exactly as expected and were both very comfortable during my first 10 mile hike while wearing them, and also nice and snug so that there was support on craggy rocks when my ankle was turned. The sole offered protection from the sharp rocks but was sufficiently flexible so that it was a comfortable hike. I've not had a chance to check on the effectiveness of the waterproofing, but the design of the tongue should help mitigate water from entering into the shoe if I slip while crossing a creek. Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality and price paid. FOLLOWUP: 13 months since this review. I deleted one star. I have had several occasions now to test the waterproofing and, as many have said, it's water-resistant not waterproof. It's not bad, I've had no serious issues and I do apply some waterproofing spray now and then which helps. I've stepped into creeks while crossing and have not had real wetness to deal with unless I went above the ankle and no amount of waterproofing will stop water from coming in over the top of the boot. So, all in all, I give the waterproofing 3 stars, not bad, not great but regular applications of a protective spray will help. I'm not a serious hiker, but I am a regular hiker and average 8 - 12 miles a week, so after more than a year, I've probably put about 500 miles on these. Most of the trails I hike are very rocky with a lot of loose, sharp, and irregular stones. These are trails where a solid boot with good protection is a requirement. I have found that these boots are protective and remain comfortable. They have also, despite some reviews, held up well. The sole has more than a few chunks missing, that's what happens when you walk on jagged rocks. They are still in good enough shape that I can expect at least another year out of them. The reason I dropped a star from my initial rating was not due to their waterproofing; as I said it's not great but adequate. In fact, for some people, this could still be a five-star product but for me, it's actually about a 2 star. I would not rate it overall as two-star because that would be unfair for readers whose hiking conditions differ from mine. I would expect that a boot that considers itself waterproof to have a "sticky" sole. If you're walking on wet rocks you want the sole to grip. These soles are slippery when wet. More than that, since I mostly hike in the desert, the rocks often have a very fine layer of sand on them which is the equivalent of millions of tiny ball bearings across the surface of the rock. I have slipped and lost my balance more often than I can count, this week I took a fairly serious fall and sprained my ankle. I was hoping that as I continued to use these boots that the sole would roughen up and grip better than they do. It's apparent that the sole was designed to be hard enough to offer protection (and still remain flexible and comfortable) but it fails in protecting from slipping or sliding when crossing a wet surface or more often in my case, a surface covered with fine sand. I would trade this durable and protective sole for one that was a bit less durable, a bit less protective, but one which also offered better slip resistance. If I was hiking on different terrain, this might not be an issue but the trails that I hike most often are not suited to this sole. It's too bad since this is a serious, and potentially dangerous issue for me. Other than that, I think it's a great boot, but I will need to find another that has a more practical sole for my purposes.

Excellent Boot
My second Merrell and my first mid waterproof version. The first one was the low, vent version. It stayed with me for about 5 years and I put about 600 miles on them. So, I knew from my own personal use that Moabs are functional and practical shoes/boots. These are true to size (at least the pair I got.) If planning to use these with thick socks, some people might need half a size larger, Shoe size are more or less standard (at least within a brand) but feet are not. I ordered my regular shoe size and it fits just perfect and if I wear thick woolen socks, the fit is snug but not uncomfortable, so, I am staying with my regular size. Comfortable straight out of the box and I was able to do a 5K walk without getting any blister, with my brand new pair. I was using them when the temperature was between 45-73 degree Fahrenheit. It was comfortable even at 73 degrees. I did not face any ‘heating’ issue but of course I won’t be wearing these during summer when the temperature hits the 90s and 100s. They are waterproof when it is used the way it is meant to be used. (My feet stayed dry while walking on wet grass, small puddle, mud and light rain (I was wearing track pants and not shorts). Excellent value boots, especially if we can get it for around $90.

This is my second pair in four years
My first set was a birthday present in 2020 and this set was a Christmas present in 2022 (that I asked for by name). The first set finally bit the dust and, after all the abuse I dished out, I can still fully recommend these shoes. I walk 1.5-4 miles through dewy grass every morning; often with mud caked on or deep puddles to tromp through. I wore them at work as a full-time caretaker for the elderly and disabled where I had an average of 18k steps per day. By the end of that 30-month lifespan of the first pair, I had worn them out and the leather started cracking, the soles came loose, and I often got debris inside the shoe via the gap in the sole. The comfort is top notch and comes just shy of a sneaker. My feet never hurt; even after the longest days. Unless I sweat for hours on end, they never smell. (a few squirts of baby powder once a week helps with that) My previous hiking boots were Salomon brand and they lasted only six months when subjected to this abuse. They were just as comfortable, mind you, but they didn't hold up to my everyday habits. By month seven, they were too far gone to even be used as yard mowing shoes. With my new pair of Merrell from this order, I am protecting them more closely than the last. I bought a pair of $20 Walmart shoes for my morning dog walks and let them suffer the brunt of my damage while this wonderful set keeps me attractive and cozy while doing my job. I do miss the comfort while trekking through the weeds each morning, but this set has done nearly 18 months without a lick of damage so far and I want to keep it that way. To any of you who are as active as myself, you must admit, a pair of shoes lasting two years is often the limit. For a set of shoes as nice as this, I'd rather their lifespan of comfort and functionality be spread out during my stressful moments; not the dirty ones. Therefor, I wear them while I tend to the helpless and less fortunate at my job, including doctor's meetings, surgeries, and at-home wound care. If you're buying these from Amazon here, then keep in mind: The color you choose might cost or save you 40% or more. I got lucky and got the second pair for much less than the first. Even though they were gifts, I knew the price of each.

Another great Merrell product for a long, wet hike
I am a woman with big feet. Women's boots do not fit me well. I have been a fan of Merrell Moab Ventilators for more than a decade - I currently have a pair of mid-highs and low tops, which serve me well. I buy them in a men's size which comfortably fit my feet. I am not a fan of waterproof boots! I can't imagine walking miles and miles with moist feet. My Ventilators get wet but dry very fast so have never been a problem in wet, muddy weather. I had a long walk ahead of me - the Camino de Santiago de Campostelle in Spain but I feared that my good ol' Ventilators might not last the hundreds of miles. When these boots came on sale, I decided to give them a try. They were Merrells, which gave me confidence. They were a different color from my Ventilators so I would be able to tell these waterproofs from my other Merrells, also! These boots exceeded my expectations from day one. They fit very comfortably, even with the layers of socks I use to prevent blisters. They were water resistant, although not totally waterproof, which meant that, even in the worst downpours, of which there were MANY, on rocky, muddy trails, my feet were only slightly moist and the boots dried overnight. They did not show any wear and tear, and the Vibram soles did not slip (yes, I used hiking poles). They fit well, were breathable, yet kept my feet relatively dry under the worst conditions (the video does not do them justice). I still love my Ventilators and will use them until they wear out but these were a good investment for the rugged use I put them through.

Great purchase
My husbands loves these boots, these are the second pair he gets, way comfy for work because he has to stand almost all day in work and these works great, super breathable which it's important for him. True to size. And the color doesn't fade away.

repeat purchase
my husband and I keep coming back to the Merrell MOAB range. Good walking shoes for going out with the dog or indeed even for casual wear about town. They are comfortable from day 1. Just be aware that the sizes come up a bit small in our opinion and we size up.

not as wide as expected
using Merrell shoe for trekking for many years; usually i buy at the shop; this time no shop had it and hence ordered on-line and it is not as wide as i expected or previous shoes which did not even have "wide" on the box. Next time need to order one size bigger i guess and hope present ones expand a bit after using few times and break-in

Favorite boot
Use these as a mechanic everyday, through grease, grime, wet and all sorts of crud. I will never wear steel toe boots as they destroy my feet, I'm a sensitive boy. They don't last forever in these conditions but they are the most comfortable boot on the market and always keep my feet warm. I've purchased 7 or 8 variations over 5 years of this boot and never had any manufacturing issues or failures. The "wide" option allows me to fit a velvety soft memory foam insert and keeps my bones happy. Yeah boy.
