Boska Holland Taste Collection Rosewood Handle Cheese Hatchet for Hard Cheese

My slicer finally gave out after more than 40 yrs. of use. I should say the wood handle gave out! So I went on a search for a replacement. I foolishly tried 4 other brands before I found the Boska which almost duplicates my old one. Cuts thin slices and looks elegant on a cheese plate. I hand wash because of the wood handle which, if it lasts as long as my original, will outlast me. ;-) Buy it! Enjoy!

It cuts beautifully, but the wooden handle started to deteriorate within 3 washes. And by washes, I mean quick hand washes and an immediate towel drying. We are anal retentive in our house about never putting any wood in the dishwasher. But even with careful hand washing and drying, the wooden handle finish started showing signs of decay by the 3rd washing. It's been probably a year or more since we purchased it and the wooden handle is now a little loose. We do use it a lot, but again, it's never been in a dishwasher or soaked in a sink. This replaced an almost exact cheese slicer that was purchased in 1978. The wooden handle on it finally died around a year ago, which prompted this purchase. I don't think this handle will make it nearly as long. When I bought this, my parents asked me to order them the same slicer but with the stainless handle. I think I'll do the same thing when it's time to replace this one. Did I mention it does a great job slicing cheese? It really does.

I read quite a few reviews of this that said that the handle fell apart or started to disintegrate because it’s wood and didn’t do well being washed. I haven’t had any of those problems. However, I do wish the handle was longer. It feels too short to really hold comfortably. Overall the knife is fine it’s not the greatest knife in the world for cheese but it does the job.

Re-writing review because at first I erroneously thought this cheese slicer didn't slice and it didn't when I first got it. There's a sliver of blue transparent tape on the back that needs to be removed first in order for it to slice! Do they mention this on packaging? I didn't see that they did and I'm partially blind and didn't see that sliver of blue transparent tape until I was cleaning it in order to return said item! They need to mention about this tape so consumers are better informed! Now it works okay!

More secure and accurate slicing of hard cheese blocks. I’m less apt to slip. This knife is easier on my hand since I can hold the second handle rather than pushing on the top of a knife blade. I keep large blocks of cheddar on hand at all times. I use this knife to cut chunks for shredding and slices for sandwiches!

I replaced one that I had for more than 20 years. I did not put it into the dishwasher which of course saved wear and tear on the handle. I needed to replace the cheese cutter as my dog had chewed the handle to pieces. Great cheese cutter, well worth the reasonable price.

I been looking to replace the one i got from my folks estate . I have several i have never found one that was able to slice thin slices . I had almost given up all hope i decieded to give this a chance . My adult son noticed my amazin box he said mom i bought 2 that dont slice cheese like the one grandpa did . I sure i will be purchasing one for his home to. I would tel, every one this one does all it says it does

This item is efficient and looks strong enough to last. We have been trying to track one down to replace a very old one which was beginning to show signs of wear in the handle . It gives a good texture of cheese especially when grating it for sandwiches . Takes up little space in the cutlery drawer.

I've owned one of these I bought in the US for over 20 years & bought one for my daughter who has missed it since moving out. Brilliant little grater for small quantities & very easy to clean & pop back in the drawer..... shame you can't buy them in stores in the UK
