I like the feel or shape of the handle. The ferro rod material seems to have a higher hardness giving off less molten globs of moly. So, you have to aim better and closer to the tinder you are attempting to ignite. This rod will last longer because of the hardness. The sparks are adequate to set off any good dry tinder if you practice your accuracy , which is fun to do, as long as you are outside and sober and paying attention to this task. Don't practice on your living room couch and carpeted floors, with a dry martini in your lap.

Got the 1/2" diameter rod; works great! Note: must scrape off a very thin protective covering on the rod's surface; suspect this is on so they may not accidentally spark during shipment. Just use the steel striker to do this; once done, works great!

In my opinion 1/2" fire steels are easier to hold and shower the tinder with sparks. I like the wood grip on the uberleben Lodern fire steels as well. All of the products I have purchased from them seem to be good quality and worth the price.

Works amazing compared to most fire starters. Shoots a large large amount of sparks and is consistent. The striker seems to be of decent quality which allows the rod to produce so much sparks. I will definitely be buying another for my bug out bags.

Produces enough shavings per strike. Sparks very well & easy to use. Produces white, hot flames when shavings are ignited.

Item as described, throws a great spark after scraping of the initial coating. Works great with cotton ball covered in petroleum jelly

This ferro-rod sparks like crazy (with the appendant steel tool as well as an appropriate knife-back). I am very happy with the quality and performance of this item, and will look here first to order again in the future.

Got this for my mom who is excited about camping this summer - it sparks really well and has a good solid grip!

love this but the cord is a little short...no big deal ...I love and its going to make tonns of firesits so awesome it makes me want to light fires

This is by Far My Favorite Ferro Rod shoots great spark and is very reliable

Throws sparks far. Solid construction, have yet to use it in the field. Some people have problems with the ferro rod becoming detached, so I used some gorilla glue to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Excellent product. I'm a hardcore Canadian backcountry trekker and I wouldn't trust any other fire steel. Other products are good, but this one is the best! Thanks for an awesome tool.

Once the coating is scraped up a bit the Sparks just fly. Seems well constructed to withstand some punishment.
