It served its purpose - just
It's been a while since I last bought a Haynes manual but circumstances forced me into this purchase for a job I needed to do on my car to get it through its MOT. Firstly, the content of the manual was to the usual Haynes standard that I've come to expect and it told me exactly what I needed to know, but two things have caused me to mark the book down.Firstly, the quality of paper in the book has noticeably declined since the last manual I bought, and this may have a bearing on the second issue which was the quality of the photos in the book which are too dark - almost underexposed. This made it difficult to pick out the finer details from the pictures.Considering the price you pay for these manuals I would expect better quality materials to be used. Maybe this is a one off but it's tainted my opinion of Haynes and, if I need another manual in future, I may look for a used one rather then pay top dollar for a new one!

Simply a 'must have' but they could improve
Having got past all of the Health and Safety warnings in the first few pages, such as "don't use used engine oil as eyewash", and "under no circumstances should you inhale sparkplugs". You get to the main content. All the useful things are still there: Torque settings, Oil types and volumes, etc. But in my experience one of the biggest issues on modern cars is the electric circuits (obvious really, as the whole car is managed by the ECU, and associated devices). Locations of many electrical device are omitted, cabling routes are not hinted at, and the wiring diagrams are next to useless. OK so much of the wiring is via PCB's or terminal boxes, but it doesn't help to diagnose problems. Not everyone has OBD2 diagnostic facilities, but a listing of error codes would only take up one side of the manual, and I would happily swap the advert for the "Starship Enterprise Haynes Manual" for such a resource. All in all, the Haynes manual is really an essential buy for anyone who wishes to maintain their own vehicle, but there are shortcomings, so don't expect it to be the font of all knowledge.

Fair
Having done a lot of work on my car through trial and error and studying u-tube videos, i find this book quite hard to follow. I don't think it makes doing the tasks any easier. Not my cup of tea.

Great Reference Point for Fault Finding
My obsession with knowing how things works means that I've always loved Haynes manuals and they are still my first point of reference when confronted with a repair job. Unfortunately (more a problem with the subject than the book) it's becoming increasingly difficult to tackle many procedures without specialist equipment however the system overviews, photos, diagrams and access procedures in this book have proven to be invaluable pieces of the 'fault finding jigsaw', saving time, frustration and probably the book's cost in broken trim fasteners.

bit basic?
Ive used these manuals for years and although handy, they still leave out the basic sometime?I wanted to renew the oil filter on my focus and unscrewed it to find the plastic cover had cracked due to a metal bracket being just in the way. When I metioned this to a mechanic friend he laughed and said that always happens on deisel focus `s,we unbolt it before we do it? Not good?Other than that ok.

haynes what did we do before
As usual the Haynes manual is a godsend for any home car mechanic. Shame the paper used seems such poor quality for something that is inevatble going to get oily finger prints on. The links between photographs and the part of the relevant text can be difficult so join up. Still I would not be without one.
