DC Comics Absolutely Everything You Need To Know

Great, but for older fans. Not for young kids
Great but not really for young kids. My son who's nearly 6 likes the pictures but some themes are adult and can't read it. It's not like Marvel or Pokemon guides which seemed to be more childcentric. Definitely for older fans, but still good for the pictures.

Perfect for children to dip in and out of
A good quality DK book with colourful illustrations and plenty of info on Superheroes, Supervillains, Teams (Justice League etc.) . The layout is attractive and busily packed with illustrations, 'Did you know?' text boxes and speech bubbles and it kept a 9 year old quiet for a 2 hour car journey. Because of it's layout you can dip in an out of any page or choose to read it cover to cover. The detail on each character/world etc. isn't extensive but it provided some discussion and interest in the characters he didn't already know.I notice that some reviewers have said it's not for 'serious fans' but it's aimed at children and as such it's a really good introduction to characters they know already but also ones they've yet to 'meet'.My faves (Deadman, Zatanna etc.) were all there so I was happy :)

Perfect for younger comic fans
This is a perfect intro into the world of DC comics. Whilst it isn't for the die-hard, decades old fan, it is brilliant for kids or people just getting started on their journey into the world of comics. Filled with interesting information about DC's famous characters, it doesn't go into any real depth but gives enough to get new fans keen to look for more information.Aimed at the younger reader and fan, this is the perfect way to introduce them to DC comic characters, give them some information and whet their appetite. It is bright, colourful and would make a great gift for the young comic fan in your life.

Suitable for young DC novices only
As with all DK books, this is a sturdy, handsomely produced volume packed with illustrations - but if you have even a basic knowledge of the DC Universe or if you're an adult looking for an introduction to the comics, this really isn't going to be suitable for you. It covers a wide range of the most famous heroes and villains but in scant detail. Youngsters who have perhaps seen a couple of the films and want to know more will get something out of it, and, in fairness, that's really who it's been designed for. However, calling it "Absolutely Everything You Need To Know" is pretty misleading.

Well-illustrated Introductory Book to the DC comics Universe; aimed at youngsters
As the Comic Book Superhero universe expands exponentially through the medium of film, this book provides a handy round up of those heroes and villains that people the DC comic canon. It's brightly illustrated, and provides little more than thumbnail sketch introductions to the vivid cast of characters, with interesting little factoids thrown in for good measure. As other reviewers have stated, its' really aimed at youngsters, and as such fulfils its remit admirably, although I am familiar with the characters, I did learn a thing or two just browsing through the book. It would make a good gift for a birthday or Christmas stocking filler.

DC Comics: Absolutely Everything You Need To Know.
Colourful and profusely illustrated, this is a primer to the DC Heroes` universe aimed squarely at children.A nicely produced hardback volume of the type DK do so well, this introduces key characters and villains plus a range of chapter headings that cover a lot of back story details including teams, location settings, tech and superpower info. which will help provide some contexts at a basic level for the novice DC Comics reader. It isn't an encyclopaedia, but an interesting look-through guide; it doesn`t really go into anything in great detail, but there's enough to whet the appetite for more exploration. Not really one for the seasoned comic book fan (most of the illustrations are of the more recent DC graphic styles with little reference to the original or classic characterisations) but what amounts to a coffee-table book for youngsters.A sizeable book that is rather light in actual content, but interesting to dip into nonetheless - even if only to admire the graphics.3 ½ stars would be my ideal rating.

Perfect For the Teen Titans Go! Generation
This is a very nicely laid out hard cover for curious pre-and-early-teens, covering the DC Universe in breadth but not depth. The double-page spreads are useful primers, with text in snippets rather than chunks. For a reader who's knowledge is mostly pre-52, and certainly pre the latest DC reboot, this was a good quick primer to today's Earth-1.I was slightly disappointed by paper quality, which is a little pulpy, but this isn't an art book, it's the sort of chunky treat I'd have loved to have on my birthday when I was 9 or so.

Fine for small kids but not great for the aficionado
This is a hefty hardback. It looks like a quality book and the cover is attractive, but it's a bit of a triumph of style over substance. The 'chapters' comprise of double spreads for superheroes, super villains, superhero teams, super villain teams, science and magic, locations and a final one on 'infinite earths'.The spreads have showy pictures and large font boxes containing snippets of info my wife knows, for example, what the superhero's real name is and who or what their nemesis is. Hardly encyclopaedic. More like a quick recap. You could learn a lot more having a quick google.Bright and colourful to open on Christmas morning, it'd hardly going to encourage much 'reading'. I wouldn't say there is much in here to sustain the interest of anyone who has mastered the art or is over the age of nine. Aimed at short-attention span youngsters rather than DC comic aficionados, I would say.
